If Netflix’s Tinder Swindler has taught us anything, it’s that if someone knows just what to say and how to act, they can get anyone to do insane, dangerous things for them. But the case of the Tinder swindler isn’t unique. In fact, cases of “romance scamming” have risen dramatically over the last few years, with dating app users reportedly being scammed out of over $300million in 2020 alone.
But before the Tinder swindler, there was someone arguably more diabolical than any of his victims could’ve ever imagined: Hamish McLaren.
