The first, fallen human whose natural death came from an illness after consuming buttercups. Presumed to possibly be the narrator for the player in most runs, they awaken from death after the player inacts total genocide on the Underground. In their previous life, they were treated as the monsters' first hope of making amends on the Surface. However, their death and the death of their adoptive brother stirred the king into inacting a mission to reclaim the Surface by force. Although it is unclear how they were during their previous life, it is said that they journeyed to Mt. Ebott for an unhappy reason and have an apparent hatred toward humanity in possible relation. Upon their revival, however, they became cold, deliberate, and very, very malevolent, despite retaining their original childlike appearance.

(Now despite the pretty likely theory that Chara acts as the narrator in all instances where you examine things, I'm going to limit it to just the Genocide run [the red or first-person text that periodically appears throughout it and of course the physical appearance at the end]. I'm pretty sure if you're reading this right now, you already should know the typical voice of "Chara" that everyone does, and my request doesn't stray too far off from that. For those not initiated, their voice has a childlike innocence in pitch, but sinister and cold in tone. Think Billy from SAW, the puppet that Jigsaw uses whenever he's talking to people in his devious "games", but like 10 years old. During the red text and the total change in appearance later on, though, they adopt a far more demonic pitch, but still maintains that childlike innocence. I don't really have a specified choice on that particular voice, so...surprise me.)
