(Try for a younger voice here. We first see him with his sister at a much younger age. Mell was just reading a book and Nellie surprised him by throwing rose petals on it!)

Mell: "Oh, Nellie…You got petals on the book. This isn’t mine. I can’t afford to let it get dirty." 

(Older now, Mell was just at the jewelry store for a gift. The jeweler was just asking him about his future, and he's nervous thinking about it) 

Mell: Goodness.. Hmm, perhaps I’ll say I want to study abroad or something.. But, as patient as my father may be, that would undoubtedly anger him. I can hear it now: “You’re wasting your god-given talents, boy!” I could always renounce my name and rank, go somewhere far away. Heh, that sounds like a plan Nellie would come up with. 

(Mell's sister was just hug tackled him from behind. He likely just had the breath taken out of him! )

Mell: "Nellie?! You’re not in the house?!"
