Axel is the best friend of Xion and Roxas, and a traitor to Organization 13. His personality changes throughout the series, when he is first introduced in Chain of Memories, he is portrayed as mysterious and able to keep a calm exposure like Marluxia, but can also be shown to be quite cruel and merciless such as when he kills Vexen.
As the series progresses you see a more angry side of Axel in 358/2 Days and Kingdom Hearts 2, but this anger comes from wanting to protect and be with his friends. However he does a have a redemption throughout the series, and tries to make up for the mistakes he has commited in the past.
What does remain consistent though is Axel's laidback go with the flow attitude and his signature catchphrase " got it memorized"
