Atticus Riley is troubled guy in his early thirties with a troubled past. He moves to a town called Eastvale which from the outside looking in seems promising but he gets more than what he bargains for. Atticus is the central character and the main plot in the season is based upon his past that he is running from and the people he meets/rediscovers along the way. He is very intense, his past affects his current actions and despite being very smart academically, in intense situations he likes to act first and think later. He's not the most outgoing person and is very much a loner and likes to keep to himself, so when surrounded by lots of other people his social anxiety takes over him. He is an out and proud gay man but his dating life is far from perfect, so relationships is a very scary thought for him. He can also be very grumpy, like previously mentioned, is developed and built upon his upbringing and his past.
Context: Opening Voice Over, think a very Jughead-esque Riverdale opening monologue:
"Eastvale. A town from the outside looking in, seems tame. Calm. Almost too perfect, but when you take your first steps over the border, you're entering a deep and dark vault of secrets and lies. My first exposure to those secrets came on my first day in this town... when a ghost from past haunted me face on."
Context: A brief flashback to the event that caused Atticus to run away from his family, Atticus is arguing with his sister Aubrey.
"After what just happened tonight we are all better off not seeing each other. We move away to separate towns, cities, whatever, start a new life and never speak to each other again."
Context: After being re-met with his sister Aubrey who he hasn't spoken with in years for which he believes is for good reason, Atticus pays Aubrey a visit to ask why he is being haunted by her and his dark past.
"Cause Aubrey, you and everyone is else haunting me already, you are a constant reminder of what happened with our family."
