He is seen at the beginning of the film when Kiki tells everyone she is planning to leave that night. He had planned a camping trip and had packed the car. When he heard the news, he ran inside and called his mother about it. Later in the film, he receives a message from Kiki stating she is working.
*Speaking to his daughter Kiki*
"You're going away?" *pause* "Yeah, but, what happened to the camping trip we were supposed to take this weekend."
"You look just your mother when she was young." *pause* "How come you never told me you were growing up so fast? If things don't work out you can always come home."
