Krillin starts off as Goku's rival in training, and a bit of a little jerk. They end up growing to become best friends. Krillin, although he doesn't seem like it at first, does have a good heart and can be brave when he wants to be but can also be the first one willing to run away from battle if the odds don't look good. At least early on.
