The blackness of space. The Ruby 7, and me inside it. I find it hardest to empty myself of tension when I am surrounded by so much emptiness — and that is why I sat there, doing just that, because I would need strength for the days to come. One cannot steal a legend for free.

    My fingers ached for the black bag in my glove compartment, the one that was not there and never will be again. They always ache like this, but I do not reach. I touched the thought and let it float past me, and felt that my heartbeat had not changed its pace. And that is when I knew I was ready.

    So I let the world in again.
