Dunbar is a scientist with many years of research behind him.  He is dedicated and diligent and takes pride in what he does.  He has a great deal of expertise in his field and speaks eloquently and with a certain degree of formality.  He enunciates his words clearly.  Dunbar has spent much of his time since the outbreak trapped in a research facility where scientists have been attempting to learn about the virus.  He is somewhat out of his depth when the team is forced to leave the facility and fend for themselves in the outside world, since he has never had to contend with the Infected on a day-to-day basis.  He is old and not well equipped physically for the rigours of life out in the open, but is nonetheless determined to survive and continue his research.
