[18+] Blue Star - An Erotic Mass Effect Animated Series
mippa for Jack / Subject Zero
A violent childhood of experimentation and abuse bred a powerfully independent, lawless, and arguably psychopathic young woman in Jack. Her voice is fairly gritty, and she is an obstensibly blunt and crass individual. Not one for beating around the bush or sugar-coating things, Jack isn't afraid to tell you exactly how she feels and where you can shove it. Pacifism and Jack are no friends - she is just as liable to blow something up for fun as she is to blow something up for a purpose. The most powerful human biotic alive, with a penchant for violence and a hunger for sex, Jack's daily routine could be summed up as "eat, sleep, have sex, and kill." Emphasis on having sex and killing.
Originally voiced by Courtenay Taylor, you can click here for a small sample of Jack's voice, for reference.
So fuck you... and thanks for asking.
They thought they were so clever. Turns out, mess with someone's head enough, and you can turn a scared kid into an all-powerful bitch. Fucking idiots.
Her ass is mine!
Mippa! That last line was delivered with such power I almost felt like I dodged a punch! That's great, and absolutely, completely Jack! You definitely have the "dere" part of Jack's "tsundere" mannerisms down pat, which is to say that you have the smug, confident tone that Jack often swings to nailed. The "tsun", or seriousness / gravitas that Jack purports is definitely a bit on the weak side, but it's still a very convincing performance to me. If you're not sure what exactly I mean by the tsundere (hot/cold, hostile/friendly, disgusted/lovey-dovey), then I recommend you listen to the tone in Jack's lines. It's very obvious in "So fuck you, and thanks for asking". The "So fuck you" is delivered very sharply and heavily (you can almost HEAR the downturn of her lips), and the "and thanks for asking" is very smug and what I would call humid - you can almost hear her smug grin in that part of the line. Similarly, in the "They thought they were so clever" line, Jack bounces back and forth between these modes a few times. The first line, "They thought they were so clever" is dripping in sarcasm, but it's a heavy, dark, cold sarcasm. The phrase "mess with someone's head enough" is a "hot" line, where that arrogance and smugness shines through, whereas all the other parts of the line are dropped like a hot plate, with absolutely nothing but disdain and hate coloring in her voice. Similarly, Jack has a very two-time decanter to her speech - she alternates between fast and rushed, and slow and languid. Her emphasis follows suit, with the fast lines ("So fuck you") being very sharp and enunciated, and the slow lines "And thanks for asking" being more uniform in their emphasis. I think this is most evident whenever Jack swears - the "Fuck" in "Fucking idiots" is so sharp you could cut cheese with it. In comparison, your enunciation and decanter are pretty uniform throughout the recording - which isn't surprising, seeing as most people speak with uniform enunciation and decanter. Honestly, I'm not really sure where I am going with describing this. I definitely think you have the air of Jack, the core essence of what makes Jack, Jack. My criticisms regarding the swing to her voice (hot and cold, fast and slow, sharp and gentle) are relatively minor things, because at the end of the day, your delivery still makes me think "Yeah, that could be Jack." The only last complaint I have is that if your voice was just a touch lower, I feel like you could be hitting Jack square on the bulls-eye. I've no idea what your range and control with your voice is, though, and so I am not going to press that point hard. As of right now, I definitely think you are the most convincing Jack to have auditioned. Expect a private message from me by the 14th - chances are I will be inquiring about a more erotic audition, to see how well we can nail down that side of the project. And if, between now and then, I feel a stronger fit for Jack comes in, I will still be messaging you regardless. Oh, and I almost forgot! I really like your voice, and I definitely feel I would like to work with you on a project at some point, even if not as Jack.
