Sweeney Tood: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street | An Audio Drama by Voices In My Head Studios
GottaGoFastYT for Judge Turpin
Judge Turpin is the character who causes Sweeney Todd to seek his deadly vengeance; he rapes Lucy Barker, Todd's wife, driving her to insanity, and unjustly exiles Todd to Australia. He then holds their daughter, Johanna, as his ward, and keeps her locked-up as a prisoner in his estate. He is aided in his corruption by his servant and constant companion, Beadle Bamford.
Turpin is a little snarky, sly, full of it, and an all around dickhead. But he is a refined judge. He is elegant in the way he speaks, with a low voice, but not too overly flaunty. He's merely a higher up in society (if you get my drift, no?)
His voice is a baritone, and unless you can do a really good impression, don't TRY to replicate Alan Rickman's portrayal
In "Pretty Women"
[singing] You see, sir, a man infatuate with love, her ardent and eager slave. So fetch the pomade and pumice stone and lend me a more seductive tone, a sprinkling perhaps of French cologne, but first, sir, I think... a shave.
Reference:
[as he sentences boy prisoner] May the Lord have mercy on your soul.
[angry] You... there is indeed a higher power to warn me thus in time.
Johanna, elope with you? I'll make sure that neither you nor any other man shall ever set eyes in her again!
[turns to Todd]
And as for you, barber... that's all too clear what company you keep! Serve them well and hold their custom, for you'll have none of mine!
[storms out of the barbershop]
