Albert-Brandt Steiner poses as a German atomic scientist captured by American special forces at the start of the war, only narrowly escaping captivity before encountering Emily. Unknown to the rest of the traveling party, he is not a scientist at all but a conman and double-agent seeking redemption. Originally, he had acquired the atom bomb plans to sell them to the highest bidder, but a change of heart sees him wanting to deliver the plans to the rightful US government, in a bid to restore the balance of the world order and break Germany’s hegemony. He speaks with a faint German accent.

  • The Kaiserreich can not be the only one to have this weapon. These are the only plans outside of Germany. We can restore the balance of power.

  • You remind me of a story we have back in Germany, Sawyer. Do you know the fable of the Turtle and the Scorpion?

  • (rising implication and threat) A scorpion, which cannot swim, asks a turtle to carry it across a river on the turtle’s back. The Turtle hesitates, afraid of being stung by the scorpion, but the scorpion argues that if it did that, they would both drown. The turtle considers this argument sensible and agrees to transport the scorpion.

Midway across the river, the scorpion stings the turtle anyway, dooming them both. The dying turtle asks the scorpion why it stung despite knowing the consequence, to which the scorpion replies: "I couldn't help it. It's in my nature."

I've been in this trade long enough to know when a man is lying Sawyer

Very funny. Your business is your own. Just dont break the girl's heart, Sawyer. She looks up to you. And she doesn’t have much left in this world.
