Godo is somewhat of a stern father figure for Guts. His words of wisdom pierce through a lot of the hateful noise in The Black Swordsman's mind and find purchase in his heart. He cares deeply, though he won't show it, and he's got dad jokes a plenty.
(speaking while working on a blade, jokingly) I swear, the construction of this blade is
about as subtle as the dick metaphor it
represents! It’s a hunk of raw iron, more
fit to be called a club. Definitely a
two hander if ya catch my drift! (laughs)
(dismayed) Guts? Did you catch that? Why didn’t you laugh?
(stoic but caring)Even the most fiery steel
must be cooled, else it will shatter under
the pressure. It’d do you good to remember
that boy.
