Horror Audiodrama Podcast - A Voice From Darkness
Nick Bean for The Traveling Salesman
The Traveling Salesman is a major supporting character in our show. He's a boogeyman. Often talked about, but so far never encountered directly. He's a man in a grey suit, missing his left ring finger, who travels the country making dark deals with small towns. Often leaving them in nightmarish states - if they continue to exist at all.
He's Don Draper crossed with Slenderman. He's the ghost of Harold Hill.
The audition part is not something he says in our show. What I provided is from the pilot script for the tv series Halt and Catch Fire. Those are Joe MacMillan's lines (part played by Lee Pace). That scene (lines/scene changed during production) can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOR8mk0tLpc&feature=youtu.be&t=65 Pace's performance - and the character of MacMillan - captures much of what we're looking for in this part.
I look forward to hearing your auditions. Thank you - Jac
When you’re sailing along with the
best of the best, it’s as if you’re
invincible. When I worked for IBM,
I excelled at IBM. And let me be
clear, they make a good product.
And they are a good company. But one day, I turned a corner, and
I got blind-sided. It was because
the confidence I had, my
convictions, what I believed to be
true, the very foundation I was
standing on--it was a lie. When
that happens, you’re left with
nothing. And when that moment comes
for Applied Data, who are you going
to blame? Will you blame IBM? They don’t
care. You’re an account number to
them. Your entire mainframe could
halt and catch fire, but their name
isn’t sullied. They go on. That’s
when you cease to exist. At least
to them. And to the world, if it
costs you your entire business. And
it’s your fault.
