John is one of two radio hosts, he's a very arrogant and cocky character, think's he's the best thing ever. It should come through in his voice, he's loud and obnoxious and believes that he's always right.
Sounds a bit like one of those 50s radio hosts, it's all cheery and false but then he's just arrogant and brags a lot.
Gradually as he looses his sanity this should become even worse to the point where it almost sounds fake. He's dramatic and over the top, practically screaming at some points, not caring about anyone or anything else other than his job and how good he is.
(Arrogant and pleased with himself)

(Angry, but it's almost too over dramatic to be taken seriously)
Well screw her- actually, no, don’t do that.. she’s awful to look at- just… she ain’t getting rid of me! You can’t have Mary without John!
