Rayman is a magical creature of an unnamed species that resides in and protects the Glade of Dreams, a fantastical world powered by beings of pure energy known as Lums. Due to the lack of them at the time of his creation, he was created without arms, legs, and a neck, instead having his hands, feet, and head float around his body with few restrictions. He has a huge round nose and strawberry-blonde hair which he divides into two fronds he can use as ahelicopter, which lets him glide across large spaces and make soft landings. He is almost always seen in white gloves and a purple torso with a mysterious white ring on the chest, through which he gains new powers from his creator, Betilla the Fairy. He also originally donned a red neckerchief, though this has changed to a red hood.
