The Colour of Paint
Brian Walsh for Jude
Jude is a young aspiring artist suffering from depression who dreams of living in Paris and selling his portraits. He's poetic, and a dreamer who puts forth his ideas through abstract analyses inspired by the works of Van Gogh. Though outwardly selfish and nonchalant, he cares profoundly for his little sister, Bonnie. He and his sister both suffered abuse as a children, and are very close. As of late, Jude's mental illness has forced him to become detatched from his relationships, and he feels that it would be better if he were to disappear from the world. He starts using heroin to get a release, but soon becomes addicted. Jude drowns in denial throughout the whole story until finally he loses his job, friends and sister. Heroin slowly devours every last thing in his life, and forces him to act against his will.
He has a soft voice, very thoughtful. Though originally from Scotland, he has lived in London for most of his life, so he may have either a combination of these accents, or one or the either. It's up to you!
I paint, still. I do little sketches of the things I see every day, just as I did before. I draw needles, I draw my slowly rotting arms, riddled with pinpricks as if lice had gnawed into them. I’m still myself. I’m not an empty husk or a shadow of what I was. I’m still Jude, only mellow and laughing. I’m warm, I’m safe, I’m comfortably numb.
[FURIOUS] Drugs are the easy part, Bonnie, they’re the easiest bloody thing I’ve ever done! The hard part? The real struggle? Is what Dad did, what I suffered for nine years of my life! All that fucking abuse! That was the closest I ever came to dying. Ending it all. But no. You choose to come in now. When my world is bright and beautiful.
You ever heard of Van Gogh? Y'know, the starry night bloke? You seen his other paintings? Wheatfield with a Reaper, Sower with the Setting sun…? They were all sun-drenched landscapes, all yellow. And Van Gogh...well he used to eat yellow paint. Cuz he thought it would put happiness inside him.
