Yzma is the main antagonist of Disney's 2000 animated feature film, The Emperor's New Groove. She is an evil sorceress and the former advisor to Emperor Kuzco. After being fired from her longstanding position, Yzma becomes obsessed with killing the emperor, and makes numerous attempts to do so with the aid of her dim-witted assistant, Kronk, and a collection of madcap potions.

  • Ha! You really should have thought of that before you became peasants.

  • *Through gritted teeth* This had better be good.

  • Pull the lever, Kronk...Why do we even *have* that lever?

As a fellow novice voice actor, I have to tell you this because it's the same advice I keep hearing from long-time professionals: don't audition for a role you know your voice isn't cut out for. I'm not saying you'll never get those parts, but professionals know that you need to be aware of how your voice sounds and then shoot for roles that play to your strengths. Here's a link to a really helpful podcast series. http://www.voiceactingmastery.com/category/podcast-episodes/page/26

Please don't put down anyone for their voice! It's worth a try, even if you know you may not get the role.

In all honesty, I thought that the audition was good!

I'm not trying to put him down. There's nothing wrong with his voice, and on a site like this where anyone can audition, no one's going to stop him. I'm saying that in the real professional world, he would be seen as very unprofessional. He does not have Yzma's vocal range. He is a man who can sound slightly high pitched, but he cannot sound like a high pitched woman. If he or you are sensitive enough to be put down by that, you may be in the wrong profession. But if you don't intend to voice act for money, and it's just for fun for you, then by all means, disregard everything I said, and do what makes you happy. It's disappointing that you ended up choosing him because of my comment. Even if you didn't want to choose me because I'm "putting people down," and that's unacceptable to you, there were several other people here who would've been a better choice. Choosing on a bias like this is also unprofessional and totally unfair to the other people who auditioned. I'm a serious voice actress. I want your production and anyone else's to be the best it can be. That's what you get when you work with someone professional.

I chose this audition, not because of your comment, but because I thought it was good. It's my understanding that you also auditioned for this role. If that's why you chose to voice your opinion, I suggest you look elsewhere to show your talent. Thank you, and have a nice day.

Maybe there's something wrong with my ears, but I'm saying that out of all the auditions you could've chosen, ones where actual women auditioned and had more suitable voices, of all of them you had to pick a male voice actor for a female role, and he can't hit the high ranges of Yzma's voice nearly as well as the other people who auditioned. I voiced my opinion because when I chose to audition for this role, I listened to other people's auditions first to compare. Then I created my own audition. And there's nothing wrong with voicing an opinion on what was clearly an unfair casting. I would gladly remove my own audition if it meant that you would pick the person who most deserves the role based on their voice. But hey, if you really want Yzma to sound like a boy, that's your prerogative. I'm sure that if you had heard a really good female audition for Hades or Dr. Facilier, you would've picked them too. That's what it sounds like you're saying.

If a female were to audition for Scar or Hades or whatever and it was good, yes I would've picked it. If you think this is unfair, okay, that's your opinion.

...Alright, after calming down a bit, I realize that what I did was unprofessional too. I'm the kind of person who believes that honesty is kinder than not saying anything, because it gives people the chance to grow. I like it when people are honest with me even when it hurts, so I tend to do the same to others. That's why I commented on this audition. But none of that has anything to do with the director's choice. You're the director, and in this business what you say goes and you shouldn't have to explain yourself to anyone. I'm very sorry for being childish. I may have burned a bridge with you, but if I ever audition for you or anyone else in the future, this won't happen again. I'm very sorry for losing my temper.

It's okay. I understand your reasoning, but I would like to keep this project open and diverse, meaning some females will be played by males and vice versa, this happens on TV too. The voice of Ash Ketchum on Pokémon is a woman! It's alright, I accept your apology and I apologise to you if I caused any offense. Have a good day.
