An everyman would classify pirate captain Edward Flynn as a ruthless, heartless soul that would slaughter anyone who crosses him at the wrong time or place. While painting a closely-resembling picture, they would only be half-right.

While it’s no secret that Edward’s methods would make many squeamish and that many have lost their lives to him and his men, that isn’t to say Edward doesn’t have his better points. Loyal to his men, he sees them more as family than goons. Some say it’s to replace a family he lost or never had, but with his enigmatic past and reluctance to talk about himself, none can really know for sure. What’s more, those that know him can attest to his deeply spiritual nature, even to the point of muttering a quick, quiet prayer for anyone he slays.

Case in point- a soul he just took onto his crew; a former member of a navy vessel his men attacked. When this “tadpole” came to Edward and asked that a girl aboard the ship they were attack be spared, Edward couldn’t help but say yes. Granted, he still rubbed his eyes and shook his head in annoyance, but he still said yes with a scoff and a smile.

Because even though Edward Flynn in, in lightest of terms, a scoundrel, he’s a scoundrel with a heart.
