Saru is a mysterious person. He seemingly fell from the sky, being found atop Mount Yohji by Chillis, owner of the Outpost, a bar and live venue, and was taken in by him, and then sent out to help defeat the Frozen Empire.

Saru can't remember anything about how he ended up in Ascua, and isn't from there. While he cannot remember anything, he's an incredibly skillful fighter, being strong enough to beat an armed opponent with his bare hands. While on his quest, he wants to find out why he's there, and remember his past.

Saru's character is probably one of the most important characters in the series.

His voice is very calm, and somewhat deadpan, however, Saru has the ability to transform into an 'enraged' form, where his voice sounds much more feral and gruff.
