Chicago - Format and Style Rules

Ah! The infamous Chicago format. Both the beloved and most dreaded among authors.

How is that? Well, most authors do tend to use this style while they write their papers so it can be called beloved.

But it is also dreaded because of its rules. And the fact that most people don’t really understand essay writer service . Why is that? Well, first of all, there are two types of Chicago formats.

Rule #1: Notes and Bibliography Style

This is the most common type of Chicago format used and you must have seen this in academic papers.

The citation is given in numbers and the footnote or endnote contains the reference. The bibliography also contains the reference but it is usually a longer reference with more information.

Rule #2: Author-Date Style

This format uses in-text citations which include the name of the author and the date of the paper’s publication. So, it’s called the author-date style.

The reference to this citation is given at the end of the paper in the form of a bibliography.

Rule #3: Bibliography Entries

After you are done with your paper, you will generate a bibliography that will contain all the references.

This entry will include the name of the author, and publication details, and the title of the paper.

There is an emphasis on punctuation, especially when it comes to citations.

All the information in your reference entry must be separated by a comma. The title of the paper must be in italics.

If you are referring to a website then the website name will be in italics.

In fact, all titles in the text will be in italics even if they are not in the bibliography.

Rule #5: General Rules

Most of these rules will remain the same for any citation format. When I write my essay, I use the Times New Roman font as it is the most legible. I also use font size 12.

You will also have to double-space your text and make sure your paragraphs are indented. All of them.

Also, add the page numbers.

Rule #6: Publication Information

This information includes the name(s) of the author(s), the name of the journal, the title of the article, the volume of the journal, its issue, and when the article was published in it.

Rule #7: Endnotes versus Bibliography
