Dead Wishes (Visual Novel)
Project Overview
Dead Wishes is a thriller/romance dating simulator/visual novel that confronts very uncomfortable subjects as an aspect of horror that is very close to home. You can read more about the project on our demo's page.
This game is NSFW/18+ and we will not hire minors for the characters. There is no explicit sexual content, but the game features some disturbing situations and graphic violence.
This work is for a visual novel that is already in progress and is projected for release in December 2018. A free demo is available here. We also post weekly devlogs to showcase the game's latest progress, as many updates have occurred since the beta.
Auditions:
Each actor will be paid for their work and credited in-game. Prior voice acting experience is good, but not mandatory. Please submit audio that shows your best mic quality (minimal background noise, good volume, etc)
We are looking for people who are responsible and can reliably meet deadlines. We reserve the right to recast a character if you cannot meet your deadline. Please have either a discord account or an email that you check regularly so that we can keep in contact.
The sample sentences are not necessarily indicative of the lines that will be used in-game. We only want to hear a sample of your voice to see if it fits the character. You are welcome to audition for multiple roles, but you will only be cast for one character.
Details and Payment:
If you are selected for a role: each character's reel will run about 3-5 minutes. The characters have 20-25 lines: most of which are sounds, phrases, or short statements that accompany changes in the sprite's expression. There will be 3-4 full lines (complete sentences) that will accompany a CG. Each actor will be paid upon completion of their character's reel. If any lines are needed after the initial set, we will pay an additional $5 for the work, which should not exceed 1 minute (so, a grand total of 6 minutes maximum).

Vincent is a serious man with a strong work ethic. He is thirty years old (the oldest of the characters) and lives alone as a regional bank manager. Vincent also has a problem with understanding boundaries, and kidnaps the MC in order to make them his "wife." He is dangerous when angered but largely adheres to a set of logical, personal rules. If you can figure out those rules, there's nothing to worry about.
Vincent has a deep voice and speaks sharply, with his sentences sounding clipped. He is very formal and verbose.
"And how about you tell me the truth now? I dislike listening to lies."
"Some people say that my expectations are too high and that it dampens their spirits."
"Do not make me repeat myself needlessly."
Lucien is a flirtatious man with a carefree personality. He has a desperate need to be liked and speaks to people very gently. He likes to tease MC and is quite inappropriate, considering that he's their boss. Lucien is handsome and he knows it. Despite his kindness, his personality is largely a facade, and underneath his warm exterior is a man who will use whatever means necessary to get what he wants. He is a human trafficker, but he attempts to write off his wrongdoing as only a smaller cog in the evils of the world.
He speaks with a slight drawl.*** His overall tone is light and sweet, as he wants the MC to feel at ease with him.
*We should have been more clear with our description, as we were not referring to a "Southern drawl," but rather a voice that drags vowels out slightly ("Well." versus "We-e-ell...") or sounds lazy.
"Goodness. Are you all right, little dove?"
"My, my. Look at you. I didn't think you would dress up just for me."
"I'd like to keep you all to myself. Am I a selfish man for that?"
Allegra is a young woman who was the victim of heavy bullying in her childhood and adolescence. She has low self-esteem and difficulty relating to other people because of her temper. She works alone, running her parent's boutique and designing clothes to sell. She went to school for fashion design and encountered some very unkind students who stole her work and bullied her, giving her deep-set trust issues. Combined with the pressure from her parents, she never felt that she was good enough at her work and has shunned the company of other people.
Native Spanish speaker preferred - Allegra is Hispanic with a medium vocal range. *If there is no one available, we can work with VA's to adjust her lines.
"Take note of the clothing they bring inside. We don't want any theft. ... any MORE theft, that is."
(Angrily) "An apology isn't going to make your mistakes go away."
"Ay, por Dios... will you stop crying?" [If you cannot speak Spanish, then omit the first part of this line.]
Sergio is the leader of the mafia and a rough sort of guy. In front of his men he acts tough but softens considerably around the MC. Although he's supposed to hold the mafia together, he can't always swallow down his feelings. Sergio and Lucien had a prior relationship; Lucien broke it off and stole half of Sergio's resources, shaking his leadership and leaving him emotionally desolate. Considering all things, Sergio keeps his cool, but he is in need of support.
Medium range, friendly, but his speech makes him seem informal and slightly uneducated.
"Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about, Cupcake. Steppin’ up. Look at you go."
"What, did you think we’d thrown you in some shitty cell, or somethin’? Even if you owe us money, I’m not gonna treat you like total shit."
[MC says that it is dangerous.] "Dangerous… well, it’s not like we’re a fuckin church, prayin’ to the Lord."
Eira works as Sergio's bodyguard and serves as his right-hand in the mafia. She is a resilient woman who picks up Sergio's slack and leads when he is indisposed. While she is very reserved around strangers (and sometimes standoffish), she is a kind, compassionate woman to her friends. Eira is an invaluable member of Sergio's crew, but she wants to move to a safer location and raise children in a house she purchased outside of the city.
Low voice preferred. Eira's voice is warm and gentle, although her speech is very direct.
"I checked on you because I was your recruiter. I suppose I feel responsible in seeing that you adjust to this lifestyle."
"I hope you know that I don’t mean to be rude when I don’t answer your questions. It's safer this way."
"I’m not being patronizing; I’m being logical. If you come, you will hold us back... And you’re liable to get hurt."
Mateo is a young Mafioso working with Sergio and Eira. He isn't very high-ranking and often finds himself in trouble with his boss as he doesn't like to follow directions. For the most part, he's always smiling and trying to make MC laugh. However... Mateo has a bad temper and is easily set off. He has no impulse control and thinks that he is incapable of doing wrong. This mindset causes a lot of harm to others.
Mateo has a young, very lighthearted voice. When he loses his temper, he screams at people.
[MC just punched him.] "Now that wasn’t very nice. Don’t tell me I have to get nasty to bring you with me. It’s such a chore… if you come quietly, it’ll be easier."
[frantic] "NO! I didn’t say you could leave the compound. Why did you leave?"
[unhinged] "I told you that I would always be with you to protect you. Especially out here… you never know what you’ll run into."
Nanako doesn't seem to have many concerns in her life, but this behavior is only to conceal the fact that she has many, many concerns in her life. She doesn't open up easily to other people, and prefers to carry burdens on her own. Nanako spends a lot of time outside playing sports and training to blow off steam. Nanako also maintains numerous gardens around the house. When she isn't outside, she is taking care of her older sister, Kazue, who is ill and requires careful attention.
Nanako has a gravely, tomboyish, and youthful voice.
"I told you to do what you want. Just make yourself useful. Look around to find something to do."
"My sister… she’s ill. She needs to be watched closely. I’m afraid that if I leave her for too long, she’ll hurt herself."
[MC asks if Nanako likes working out.] "Like it…? I’m not sure if that’s what I feel. More like it’s a habit by now. If I don’t do it I start to feel bad: Sluggish, lazy… my brain gets fuzzy."
Clement runs his own restaurant and meets the MC through their landlady. Clement is a relaxed individual who is a bit perverted and teases/confuses the MC with deadpan humor. He's very approachable and friendly, willing to help people when he can. He sometimes loses his temper at employees, but it's only because they are trained professionals and therefore have high standards to meet. On the other hand, he's very patient with people who are just learning and is eager to give advice where he can.
Clement has a medium to low voice.
"You need some more confidence, or you’ll get walked all over. Just not too much. It’s the service industry... So kiss some ass."
"What do you mean they 'left?' No two-week notice? Do any of you have an ounce of professionalism?"
"I was flirting with you. What was it I said… 'Don't stop. Keep doing it like that. Yes. Harder.' What did you think I meant by that, with my body pressed against your ass?"
Festus is a priest (ex-priest) who maintains a church in an impoverished part of town. He is friendly and always willing to lend a hand, even when he is tired from working. He takes pity on the MC and gives them a room in the church when MC is evicted. Festus has his own idiosyncrasies, and was never unable to maintain his vow of chastity, so despite his willingness to help others, he isn't a very good priest in the formal sense. Festus uses humor and pranks to keep the conversation lighthearted, almost to the point where one might worry about his inner thoughts.
Festus has a medium-medium high voice.
"Hey, if you're going to bolt again, can you give me some warning? I haven't gone out for a run in a long time. You're making me feel out of shape."
"Anise might need some help - maybe you should ask her! Be careful, though. She bites."
[more somber] "People want to worry over what they’ve done wrong, who they’ve hurt, and why their lives aren’t just what they want. Sometimes all they need is a little introspection."
