YT Video Essay on Cloudscratchers (CutCafe)
Project Overview
I'm working on a video going into a LONG deepdive into the Webcomic "Cloudscratchers" for my Youtube channel CutCafe (seriously, like my full script is 57 pages long)! However, now that I've been monetized, I can now afford to pay folks!
I plan to be paying through Paypal, so keep that in mind if you're auditioning. I want to be able to pay ya!
The folks that are selected will also, naturally be credited both in the description and end of the video (much like the Gravyman video I made which also used the help of VAs here on CCC)
For this video, there are multiple points in which I'll be showing the comic itself, having dubbed scenes to help the viewer follow along, rather than the whole video being my summary of the series. As the series has been ongoing since 2012, there are a lot of scenes and a lot of characters, so we've cut it down to the most noteworthy scenes to have you guys voice over!

Captain O’Connel is the leader of the Cloudscratchers. Usually calm and collected leader-figure of the group with quick-wit, however they’re more than willing to bring their foot down when matters risk the crew, especially his son. He also acts as the adopted father of Felix, of whom he and his son were the sole survivors of an attack by the Empire.

(Panel 1) You’re the one who hurt these kids, am I right? That boy’s my son, you know… I can tell by that look on your face you think I just revealed some weakness you can exploit. You misunderstand me, Borzax… I told you that as a WARNING. Y’see I’m usually a pretty diplomatic guy, but when someone harms my son? Well it tends to impair my better judgment. Makes me quite impulsive… some would say “trigger happy”... So take a moment to thank your god he’s well enough to stand. Because if he wasn’t able to neither would you…
(Panel 2-4) Guess I was too distra— well nevermind. Luckily I planned for something like this… Felix has been bugging me to make use of this for awhile now… What can I say? I’m a single father… Not at all! Just a man whose son needs a mom. Temporarily… Ow, Haha!
Adopted son of the Captain, and child genius when it comes to machines, Felix is an eccentric young boy practically raised as a part of the Cloudscratcher Crew. Though admittedly, when it comes to machines, they’re quite the workaholic. Beyond curious and upbeat, Felix is the closest thing to a “main character” in the Cloudscratcher comic series.

I… may have had some trouble sleeping, and… it’s possible I may have done some work to help with the insomnia… Up ‘till the time you walked into my room to wake me up? …thirty-seven seconds…
The somewhat dense pilot-for-hire, Burt is a particularly jolly member of the Cloudscratcher crew. Always optimistic, Burt also has a particular weakness for women (in a similar fashion to Brock from the Pokemon anime).

(Scene linked above) Haw-HAW! Looks like second time’s the charm! We’re pretty lucky, too! Ain’t seen one sentinel since he split up the group. What the–?! Now, now, Jacques. Let’s hear the lady out… Well I, er… Well, you know, I try and do what I can to stay fit. I dunno, it’s pretty heavy..! Well maybe for just a second, but be careful, now…
Jacques is a particularly hot-headed ace pilot for the Cloudscratchers. Although a lot more sensible then some of the other members of the crew, he has a habit of getting in over his head when the Empire shows up, as he’s had a vendetta against them after they conquered his homeland.

Ixia is a child soldier that switched sides from the Empire to the Cloudscratcher Crew after she learned of the Empire’s plot to conquer and destroy the Feline Capital of Felisburg. Ever since, she’s been a powerhouse member. Although self-conscious at times, more often than not she’s determined to write her past wrongs by helping to defeat the empire.

Alice is another Ace Pilot of the Cloudscratcher crew, having been there since the beginning. Fiercely loyal, with a tendency to taunt opposing forces, they’re powerful on the battle ground, even when they have a tendency of getting into trouble with the Empire.
(This role also ties in a handful of female side characters that only appear once, or only have a few lines.)

(Panel 1 ALICE): When Ixia joined the crew, our Captain knew we’d have to go up against people capable of doing what she could do. So he immediately had her share everything about her abilities with him. You need to concentrate to activate your super speed and reflexes, so to counteract that, we need to prevent you from concentrating. The Captain came up with plenty of “Counter-Ixia” strategies to deal with anyone who had her combat techniques. This is one of them. GUGO EXTRACT!
(Panel 2 side character A1) Que es esto? I thought you said yelling out attacks was not your style..! Sorry, but you won’t be going anywhere near the Cloudscratcher people… Excremento para el cerebro!
Delila is a rather preppy tomboy who’s beyond stubborn when issued a challenge. Although Delila is a main cast member, they don’t actually have many lines from the sections being dubbed, so we’ve also given this role the Librarian as well (another character whom appears once during a pretty important section in Noggos’s arc, as both don't have many lines.)

(Panel 1, Delila) You act like you’ll get the chance..! My crew has three decorated military veterans, a mechanical genius, a bovine that’s even stronger than usual, and a super-soldier! You might wanna let us go now, before you’ve gotta deal with THAT!
(Panel 2, Librarian) I’m well aware of your rank and security clearance, Major Noggos. If you want to see the full report, you’ll need level 8 security clearance. If you still think we’re mistaken, you can take it up with the high bookkeeper. Otherwise, your issue is with your superiors and I can’t help you.
Sally-Jean acts mostly as the Cloudscratcher Crew’s on-board chef, however they’re also a tough-as-nails battler with extreme strength, making them effectively the crew’s muscle as well. A note acting wise, is that the character is portrayed with a southern accent. I’d say aim for something like Applejack from MLP:FiM, as that’s what I personally imagined while reading.

But… I put everythin’ ah had… (they’re batted into the wall, though shortly after return) Slow yer roll there, stitch! WHO SAID WE WAS FINISHED?!
Soggat is a Priest of Margoth and the Cloudscratcher’s very own medic. Caring, and fiercely against the Empire, Soggat is always there to offer words of advice and encouragement. I personally pictured a Khajiit-like voice for this character, however in addition, this role also includes another minor character (D-Pesh) with a similar Khajiit voice.

(Panel 1, Soggat) I’ve already made all the necessary arrangements. They said we should see the anchorage they’ve set up for us plainly from the direction we’re approaching from. I’ll contact them again when we’re in view of the city. When they get my signal, they’ll activate a set of guide-lights at the anchorage. Just pull the ship into the center of the lights and they’ll take care of the rest.
(Panel 2-3, D-Pesh) If this monster truly is invincible, then I have only one trick left to get us all out of here… “FINNA BOUNCE!” (yes that is an actual line from this comic)
Borzax is the commander of the Margoth Empire’s military, ruling it with an iron fist. Regarded as the “Shining Sword of the Empire”, they’re cunning, vengeful, and “violently psychotic”, they’re a force to be reckoned with that doesn’t like losing. With plenty of conquests under their belt, they’re dead set on taking down the Cloudscratchers once and for all. Main Antagonist of the comic so expect a lotta lines and a lot of angry shouting.

(Panel 1) I’m not sure what it is I did to please Margoth so much… If I knew what it was I’d be doing it everyday! First, I get to pound this little treacherous, furry-loving BRAT into the dirt, now THIS?! The Cloudscratcher’s very own smug little mutt. Oh you have NO IDEA how much I’m gonna LOVE this!
(Panel 2-3) Oh colonel I am SO sorry, truly Captain Narkethoness was being incredibly reckless! I can promise you he will be properly punished for his actions. …….switch to private frequency… Eh-hem… Captain? I think you’re about due for a pay raise.
Noggos is an old Major of the Margoth Empire. A stickler to the rules who’s served the empire his entire life, he’s beyond loyal to his country even if he’s starting to question the direction it’s going in.

(Scene linked above) Is this some kind of JOKE?! …ARE THEY?! Because I couldn’t tell with this amount of redaction! This is an insult! This doesn’t even look like an official document anymore! For Margoth’s sake, not only is the date redacted– which makes no sense because the date of the incident in question is public knowledge– but even THE WORD “DATE” is redacted! IS THE CONCEPT OF TIME NOW CLASSIFIED INFORMATION?! Someone obviously just took a marker to everything on this report without even reading it! In all my years of service this has got to be the most unprofessional thing I have ever seen! Look at my uniform. See these colored stripes? That means I’m a conquest-active commanding officer! See how they’re green? That means I’m a major! In case you’re unaware, that means I have LEVEL 5 SECURITY CLEARANCE! Now why don’t you go back and bring me the correct copy of this report!
Pretty short role, super threatening villain character but only really shows up for Noggo’s arc and one of the other characters backstory scenes (at least for what’s being dubbed here.)

(Scene linked above) Oh! Hey, sorry to interrupt, but you’re gonna get a kick out of this, it’s the craziest thing! I got a couple of furballs here I’m testing my new battleship cannon on, right? And I swear, one of these furballs looks like the feline version of that son of yours! Y’know, the one who just enlisted? I think he’s being assigned to work under me, too! Isn’t that the craziest thing?! Haha… So, anyway, what do you want to ask?
This role is for two characters. Caxtur and Leon. Caxtur is a behemoth of a snake, who’s body is made up of machinery, and face made of a gas mask. They’re a rather “professional” and taunting antagonist, appearing towards the end of the series as more of a force of nature than a single enemy. Leon only appears in one scene, though their lines are pretty long. Being the Feline Nation’s leader, there’s a decently sized theme where him and the captain are going back and forth, and Leon stays stubborn on his beliefs about the Serpent people.

(Leon panel) After having to console countless families after telling ‘em their sons, daughters, moms, and dads are never coming home because some snake was told their god says they’re better than everyone else, and can take our lands and our lives all they want? (Caxtur panel) More than you have. …I must commend your tenacity, Sally-Jean Peterson. Although you pale in comparison to your father, still, it was a good contest! Wait a second…
Wolfsbane is the egocentric “Dread Pirate” who seeks riches and infamy through piracy, robbery, and other crimes. A lot goofier of an antagonist compared to Borzax, Wolfsbane gives numerous melodramatic speeches about himself, and is an all around fun antagonist to read.

Nina is a renowned globetrotting thief in the top 10 most wanted criminals in the world. A mischievous kleptomaniac, Nina steals whatever they can get their hands on, currently plunging for treasure in the Avian Ruins for a client. Nina will stop at nothing to live a lifestyle of indulgence, and has learned many manipulative, trickster skills to get her way.
