Yu-Gi-Oh Season 0 Manga Re-Dub
Project Overview
What is this?
A fandub of the highly enjoyable but often neglected Yu-Gi-Oh! Manga Season 0. We are hoping to create a type of audiobook for listeners to enjoy while reading the manga. Featuring music, sound effects, and talented voice actors.
For those of you unfamiliar with the premise: This manga contains the original ideas set around Yu-Gi-Oh. A game lover by the name Yugi Muto is given an ancient puzzle by his Grandfather. Upon completion of the puzzle, Yugi is then possessed by an ancient unnamed Pharaoh. This Pharaoh is summoned anytime Yugi or his friends find themselves in trouble. The Pharaoh challenges those who threaten his companions with a "Shadow Game". A Shadow Game reveals a person’s true nature and if they lose the game, they are to suffer a "Punishment Game".
Requirements:
We are going to be doing all the audio engineering and video editing in this project. Due to that, we are asking that Voice Actors have a significant level of technical and performance quality is going to be expected. Please ensure that your microphone can record your performance without picking up overwhelming background noises or excessive peaking/clipping. This manga does contain moments of screaming out of pain, anger, passion, so ensure you are comfortable with shouting. If you cannot meet our requirements, we kindly ask you not to audition.
PLEASE NOTE: We are NOT looking for exact copies of the cannon voice actors in the franchise. We are hoping to give a unique twist to some characters. In the manga, some of these characters' personalities are not the same as they are often portrayed in the show.
Casting regarding Payment:
This manga has a total of 59 Chapters. Now it is our plan to start off the first couple chapters as volunteer unpaid work, however, since this project is going to be mostly funded directly out of our pockets. We are hoping to get assistance through donations. The reason we need donations is that we wish to fully compensate our voice actors who are signed aboard this project.
Once payment is worked out, payment is going to be per Chapter. You will receive payment every time your character appears. However, subsequent characters may change depending on the total line count for a given case. It is our goal to release a chapter per month. Payments will be handled through PayPal. We also are firm believers in Payment before work. We will total up the lines you have for your character in the chapter and give you a rough estimate. Once a final estimate is agreed upon, we will send payment over and you will be expected to complete your work.
Role Significance:
Obviously, leading roles are going to be paid the highest amount as they appear most frequently and deserve to be accommodated accordingly. However, certain "supporting" and "minor" characters have recurring appearances throughout the manga and can have an incredibly important impact on the events of the story. They can have a significantly higher amount of dialogue in the few instances where they appear more often compared to other characters of similar "significance". As such the pay for such roles may vary from other characters in the same classification. This is not a mistake or oversight: each actor is being compensated according to the requirements that will be expected of them.
It should be noted that background characters whether played by the main crew or guest stars, will not be paid roles. This is due to the short amount of lines and screentime they have.
Payment:
Payments will be made per chapter. Payments will be sent exclusively through PayPal only- if you do not have a PayPal account do not expect to be paid as part of this project.

2.) Both of us are huge fans of the franchise Yu-Gi-Oh and we are hoping that this project will help to give us more experience with producing and directing. We also wish to bring fun and more acknowledgment to this darker side of the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise.
3.) If you're interested in voicing certain characters from the franchise, you may see that at the moment they are not listed in the casting list below. This is because at the moment we are only looking for VAs to voice all the characters in Chapter 1 of the manga. However, as we continue on with the series and start a new chapter we'll post any new characters onto this list. In other words, it is our goal to reach all the characters and get them casted. Just keep an eye out for then we reach the chapter that contains the specific character you wish to audition for.

Sorting through
There has been an incredible response to this casting call and we apologize for the slight delay in responses. However, we will now sort through all the VAs left and determine where we go from here. We can't thank everyone here enough who has followed and volunteered for this project. Yugi is a bright, bubbly, and optimistic character. Yugi can get very excitable and often has a lot of inner monologues with himself. He is very much a pacifist, preferring to solve things as peacefully as possible rather than using his fists. He's been described as being a wimp. Yugi's extremely protective of his friends, and not one to easily give up.
[You are explaining to your friend about a puzzle that you have spent the past eight years working on.]
See...There's these hieroglyphics carved around the box. I bet they say something like this...
[Your voice fills with awe]
"Whoever solves this puzzle shall be granted one wish..." Y'know what I mean?
[You just witness an extremely strong and intimidating man beat up both of your dear and close friends. You are filled with this will to protect them as you run in front of them protectively and yell,]
Don't touch these two any more! If you're going to hurt someone, hurt me!
[After eight years of working on an extremely hard puzzle, you find yourself only needing to insert one more piece to finish it. Excitement fills your voice]
I...I...I did it...!? When I fit the last part in, it's done! (Pause and gasp) Huh...?! It's gone...
[Panic fills you as you discover that you are missing the last piece to the puzzle.]
It's gone! The last piece isn't there...!! Gone...!

Yami Yugi

Yami Yugi is extremely cocky and a bit sadistic. He holds noble intentions, but he inflicts horrific and traumatic "Punishment Games" upon his enemies. Yami Yugi holds himself confidently and stays cool-minded even in the darkest of situations. However, if he finds himself loosing control over a situation or game he looses his calm demeanor and can panic a bit. He is very protective and devoted to his friends as well much like Yugi.
[Your voice is cocky and playful as you make your proposal to your victim to play a game with you.]
Right...Not just any game...A Shadow game! How about it? If you win you get more than 200,000 yen! Not bad, huh? We need just one tool to play this game. That knife you've got hidden, Ushio!
[You are curiously thinking to yourself about how your victim is going to play this game out.]
In the Shadow Games, a person's true nature is revealed to decide their fate!! Ushio! Your right arm is controlled by your own greed. You can no longer stop it. What will you do? Will you sacrifice your left hand to get the money or...
[Your voice turns sadistic as you prepare to punish your victim for not playing the game properly.]
Just as I thought. You weren't able to follow the rules after all! This is only seen by those who "trespass my soul!" Like those who hurt my friends and try to steal my money!! PENALTY GAME!!!

Initially Jonouchi is a bully who mistreats Yugi, claiming it's to "make him a man". He was a delinquent in middle school who got into a lot of fights, however, after becoming friends with Yugi he starts to cool down a bit and discovers the true meaning of friends. Jonouchi has a lot of hyped up energy and a loud booming voice. He can be very sarcastic and blunt. Joey can be impulsive and not to mention a bit "slow brained" but he is good-natured and funny!
[You are bullying a wimpy male student in your class whose obsessed with puzzles. Your voice is filled with disgust as you exclaim,]
Geez! Only a girl would care about a box. Watching you makes me sick! It really pisses me off!! So y'know Yugi...
[A smirk crosses your lips as you add]
I'm going to teach you how to be a man!!
[Your friend had been holding his hand over your mouth to keep you from saying something that would get you hurt. Upon releasing your mouth you gasp in air before yelling out,]
(GASP) You jerk! I couldn't breathe! USHIO I'M GONNA GET YOU SOMEDAY!!
[The kid you saw as a wimp in your class has proved to you that he knows what it takes to be a man, earning your respect. Your voice is more friendly and excited as you say,]
Yuge! If you can keep a treasure, so can I! Want to see? I'll give you a hint! It's "something you can show, but can't see"! (Pause) You give up?
[You soften your tone a bit more as you reveal the answer.]
C'mon...It's friendship!

Anzu has a spunky and bit of an explosive personality. She's not afraid to raise her voice and scold out Jonouchi and Honda when they get into their antics, or bully Yugi. Anzu is kind-hearted and supportive of all her friends. She can be the voice of reason for her group as well, not afraid to stand up to figures of authority and what she believes in.
[You just snatched the puzzle box from the bullies and began scolding them]
Bullies who pick on little kids are what's dumb! If you think it's dumb, give it back to Yugi![Expressing your disgust upon finding out the men's true reasoning to allowing women to play the game]
On the basketball court, I thought the guys were to the girls a lot.. found out they were peeking when the girls made their shots![You're in awe as you examine the shiny puzzle pieces]
Wow! It's pretty! sparkling gold.

Honda initially is a bully who pushes Yugi around. However, he later comes to realize that the reason he pushed Yugi around so much was because it was himself he was upset at. He hated himself, but chose to take that anger out on others. He was hesitant to warm up to Yugi at first, but once he did he started to accept himself and value Yugi's friendship. Honda is a bit of a hopeless romantic type of guy. He also is the bravest out of everyone in the group, and while a bit of a goof he also has his mature side that he uses to call Jonouchi out with.
[You've just nearly escaped rumbling the main bully. Taking your friend aside to frightfully exclaim]
Jonouchi! Who do you think you're poking a fight with? That's that ogre of a hall monitor Ushio![You just snatched the puzzle box out of the boy's hand, making fun of him]
Hehe... what are you talking to yourself about, Yugi! You win the prize for creepy!

Ushio is an intimidating and absolutely sadistic man. He enjoys conning lowlifes out of their money, and beating up anyone he deems to be a "bully". He has a twisted sense of thinking that he's protecting his school from bullies by being a bully himself. Another huge aspect to his personality is his greed, which leads to his demise at the end of Chapter One.
[You watch in surprise as a kid jumps in front of you and yells at you to stop hurting his so called "friends". Your voice is filled with bafflement,]
Are you serious?
[You begin to chuckle, amused, before stating,]
Ha ha ha ha... You're a real winner, you call them your friends...? These are the guys who pick on you everyday!
[Your voice is laced with intimidation and anger as you threaten the kid in front of you.]
You're beyond strange, you're crazy... Alright then, as you wish.. I'll show you what will happen if you don't pay up! Normally, I hate picking on people... But this isn't "bullying" this is a "warning"!
[You're in the middle of playing a game that involves stabbing a knife into money that's laying a top your hand. Panic begins to seize you as you realized that you're loosing control of your arm as you begin to stab the blade down towards your hand.]
Ah...Ah...Ah... What's wrong... I'm using too much strength! M-My arm... I can't relax my right arm..!? My right arm isn't listening to my brain!

Sugoroku is Yugi's Grandfather. He loves and cares deeply for his Grandson, however, he's not just some push over easy going Grandpa. Sugoroku's not afraid to be a bit harsh or call Yugi out if he's being reckless. He ultimately wants what's best for Yugi and his friends, however. He has also been seen to be a bit of a perverted old man, he enjoys making comments about women's busts.
[Your tone is pleasantly surprised as you examine the woman before you.]
You've grown since I saw you last, Anzu.. especially your bust! Almost to the 32" mark?![Your tone is one of doubt and warning]
The millennium puzzle is beyond human understanding! It's too hard for you. And it has all sorts of unsavory rumors attached to it.[You're encouraging Yugi to push forward.]
Yugi..you've poured your heart into this puzzle for the last eight years. You should have more faith!
