If you take a look at movie franchises, in particular Disney movies, each new movie in the franchise progresses and builds upon the previous. Sometimes the new film can be quite better than its previous, and then there are indeed times when the sequel does not surpass the first. As we get introduced to the next chapter in the franchise, we see an evolved storyline, an evolution in the characters, and an overall evolution of theme.
