Valerie's rest is a very short kinetic novel about a few people in a small town who encounter an angel girl who helps them with some kind of problem that they face. It's meant to be a short sweet family friendly story that leaves you feeling good inside.
The first story "Scripts & Dreams" may be only the first in a series of free short visual novels.
This particular story is about the efforts of Meilu (the angel) to help a young man retrieve a script from the all-girl high school his sweetheart used to attend which they worked on together, along the way she befriends and restores the confidence of a young girl to submit her script to the same contest they did all those years ago.

We started this project planning to include voice acting but it all kind of fell apart until I discovered casting call club, as such a few roles are already filled by people who already expressed an interest during that time (though depending on certain circumstances these roles may open again)
I aim to leave casting open until mid-April with the intent of getting everything finished within about 2 or 3 weeks of the casting decisions

The narrator character reads the lines of description and other text not directly spoken by the characters, I am to fill the role of the narrator myself

"There was no one else around that part of the school so the lone girl, Yume, stood out pretty clearly as she stood by the koi pond lost in thought"
"Meilu sped off in the direction of the train station with seanen soaring above looking this way and that, afraid they might be too late to provide the man with the script."
A sensitive and somewhat awkward man who returned briefly to his hometown of Valerie's Rest in search of a script he and his sweet-heart wrote for a contest when they were in the early years of high school.
This character should be fine with any pitch of voice that isn't too high or too low, he is meant to be a nervous and awkward character, you might want to intentionally stammer or stumble over your lines just a little bit once in a while as long as it's still clear what you're saying. This character shows a range of emotions through the story in what he says so be sure you can convey some feelings in the way you deliver his lines
(Pleading) Please you have no idea how important this is to me!
(Surprised) WH-Wh-What the heck! You have WINGS?
(Deeply moved) Thank you... and thank you again, I'll never forget you and I will always be grateful!
A minor character who appears only twice in the story. She is sympathetic to what the man in plaid is going through but understands that by the rules of the institution she isn't supposed to let him in.
She speaks in a formal manner and while any accent will be accepted for the part you may want to include one take attempting to sound like you're from some part of England. While the age is listed as middle age I will also accept young adult applications. I imagine a mid-range or deep voice to this character
(Sympathetic, formal, and apologetic) I'd love to help you truly I would but I can't simply... Pardon me, there are other duties I must attend to now

[NOTE: I had previously contacted a voice actress about playing the role of Meilu but due to repeated and significant delays I am allowing other people the chance to audition for this role, however there is no guarantee that any people auditioning here will receive the role, because I've told her that if she can send me all her lines before the casting period is over she gets to keep the role, if you understand the circumstances surrounding this role and are willing to accept that this off site actress may still manage to fulfill her requirements and keep her role in this project then you are welcome to audition, if the time for casting comes and I still have not recieved the lines I need from her then I will select someone who auditioned for this role]
I am allowing auditions for this part, should the original contacted voice actress manage to send me all her lines in the period of the casting process the role will still go to her, if she has not managed to send them by then the role will go to someone from these auditions, please understand these circumstances if you audition for the role of Meilu
A blonde girl who just so happens to be sitting nearby when the man in plaid encounters difficulties in finding the script. Kind and helpful though lacking a little common sense she volunteers to help him out, revealing herself to be an angel in the process unaware that there's anything unusual about this
I imagine Meilu would have a mid range or higher voice, she tends to speak with innocently naive curiosity and joy, often with gentleness and good will. She is a kindhearted character but is also a little impulsive and doesn't always think things through, tends to get flustered when encountered with situations where she doesn't know what to do or has made a mistake
Well Meilu's not a normal girl now is she?

I'm sure I'll never forget you either mister um....uhh... I can't believe I forgot to ask what his name was!
A talking dove who serves as Meilu's more level-headed companion. Despite being a bird he seems much more informed about the workings of the human world than the angel girl he follows
I imagine Seanan having a deep voice but not one that's too deep, For the most part Seanan talks in a way that is calm and dignified and a little bit like a teacher though he may drop into grumbling mutters, various sighs, and sometimes get a little exasperated.
(Mildly alarmed) Wait... where'd Meilu go?
(Weary or condescending) You need me to find out where it is don't you?
(Weary or annoyed mutter) I'm really too old to be doing things like this, it's so undignified...
A cunning and somewhat egotistical student council girl who decides to use Meilu to solve a problem of her own in exchange for the script in question, a little bit of a smart-ass and sometimes engages in mind games with people
I imagine Misaki having a mid range voice but toward the deeper end of the scale and the actor should be able to put some subtle snark in her voice, I have sometimes referred to Misaki's character as a "smart-ass half-B**** who's still likeable to the audience"

(Toying with someone drawing out playing dumb for attention when she knows she has something the other person wants)
Gee I wonder what I'm going to do with this thing now that I don't need it anymore?
A creative but somewhat shy and anxious young girl who is losing confidence in herself worrying that she is being too childish for writing fairy tales at her age
I imagine Yume's voice to be somewhere in the mid to high range leaning more toward the high end, her character is timid, shy, and tends to punctuate her sentences with small hesitant pauses a lot, but Yume can be kind of lively when she's excited
(Startled) Y-yes that's me!
"No that's not it, It's because fairytales are... "childish"... I mean... I'm already two years into high school, I have to start acting like it.
