Project Overview
In the 1980's and 90's, NPR created a series of Star Wars radio plays. These plays told the story of Star Wars in a way it had never been told before.
Today, I've been inspired to do the same thing.
This project will be a retelling of the events of Star Wars Episode I, The Phantom Menace.
Using material from the movie, and the official novelization, we'll make an episodic audio drama, filling in gaps between scenes and expanding the story.
This project is entirely fan made, and non profit. Each episode will be published online on YouTube for people to listen to.
This casting call is for most of the main characters. Obviously we'll need many more voices for extras and side characters. Coming soon I'll make another casting call for those parts as well, but for now, here's the big ones.

Shmi is Anakin Skywalker's mother. She is a slave, just like her son. She loves Anakin dearly, and is protective of him.

Obi-Wan is a Jedi, and is the padawan learner to Qui-Gon Jinn. He is quite rash, and bold.
For this, you don't necessarily have to do an impression of Ewan McGregor, or the voice from the animated series.
Any takes on the character are welcome.
If they find us, they will crush us, grind us into TINY pieces and BLAST us into oblivion!

Queen Amidala is the queen of the planet Naboo, she is very stoic and regal.
During most of the story, this queen Amidala is actually a double for the real queen, Padme.
I will not condone a course of action that will lead us to war.
I was not elected to watch my people suffer and die while you discuss this invasion in a committee!
The Federation has gone too far this time.
Mace Windu is a Jedi knight, and member of the Jedi council. He's a skilled warrior, and is sometimes too hasty.
In the film, he was played by Samuel L. Jackson. You don't necessarily have to sound just like him, but it wouldn't hurt.
The Sith would not have returned without us sensing it.
You refer to the prophecy of The One who will bring balance to the Force. You believe it's this boy?

Watto is an alien living on Tattooine. He sells slaves, and parts. He's a shrewd and greedy businessman.
For this, either do your best impression of him from the movie or an original take. Either one is fine.
Better stop your friend's betting or I'll end up owning him, too!
Republic credits? Republic credits are no good out here. I need something more real.
You think you're some kind of Jedi, waving your hand around like that? I'm a Toydarian. Mind tricks don't work on me. Only money!
Qui-Gon Jinn is a Jedi knight, and Jedi master to young Obi-Wan Kenobi.
He is a wise and skilled Jedi, yet is somewhat rebellious against the Jedi council.
At the time of Episode I, he is about 60 years old, however he appears much younger.
In the film, he's played by Liam Neeson, just try to do your best impression of his voice and accent, he has a deep soothing sort of voice.
I put Irish as the accent because that's actually where the actor is from, but Liam Neeson has a very unique accent, and if you can't really get it just right feel free to just do a British accent instead. Feel free to try any original takes on the character.
That is the sound of a thousand terrible things headed this way.
Obi-Wan, promise... Promise me you will train the boy.
The Force is an energy field that exists in all living things... it surrounds us, and penetrates us, and binds the galaxy together.
Padme is a a young woman who's real identity is queen Amidala. During most of the story, she's disguised as a hand maiden, and a double of her is pretending to be the queen.
Padme is compassionate and kind, she takes a liking to young Anakin.
Are you sure about this? Trusting our fate to a boy we hardly know? The Queen will not approve.

Sadly... Jar Jar isn't a character we can just write out of the script. So here's everyone's favorite Gungan.
Jar Jar is a comedic alien who's antics ocassionally get the rest of the characters into trouble. He's got a very unique way of speaking, so I'd reccomend watching a video of him if you've never heard him before.

Darth Maul is a Sith lord, and apprentice to Darth Sidious.
His mission is to hunt down and kill Obi-Wan and Qui-Gonn.
He doesn't speak often, yet when he does his voice is dark and intimidating. Almost as intimidating as his appearance.
At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At last we will have revenge.
I've killed your master and now it is your turn to die, young Jedi!
Prepare to become one with the Force, Jedi.
Palpatine is a senator in the republic. While he may seem kind on the exterior, he's very secretive and sinister.
To be realistic, your Majesty. I think we are going to have to accept Federation control for the time being.
But your Majesty, be realistic. They'll force you to sign the treaty.
And you, young Skywalker; we shall watch your career with great interest.
The narrator is a smaller role, yet is one of great importance. The narrator will give an intro and outro to every episode, and also read the credits aloud.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away... there came a time of upheaval, when dark forces emerged to destroy a peaceful republic.
Meanwhile, in the farthest reaches of the galaxy rests the forgotten desert planet of Tattooine. Here, a young boy sits atop a dune of sand, gazing at planet's setting suns. Unaware of the part he will soon play in the wars to come.
Anakin is a young child living on Tattooine, he and his mother are slaves. Anakin is a skilled pilot for his age, and loves machines. He's strong in the force, although he doesn't know it. He dreams of one day leaving this planet and journeying through the stars.
Anakin is a child, so the audition is open to male and female voices.
You're a Jedi Knight, aren't you?
I saw your laser sword. Only Jedi carry that kind of weapon.
I listen to all the traders and star pilots who come through here. I'm a pilot, you know, and someday I'm going to fly away from this place.
