The Orchid Battalion: A Fantasy Audiodrama
Project Overview
In the continent of Astromel, there are several occupying races. There are the humans who occupy most of the land, the Wolven kingdom of Greye, and the elves that occupy the mountain of Ioshil. Each race can agree on one thing: The Orcana Monastery is the safe haven within the continent. It helps those in need, and never turns a soul away, no matter their race. It’s a quiet, peaceful place. However, all that changes when two Wolven princes arrive. The continent is on the brink of war with the wolvens, and the only way to avoid it is to find the Dragon Queen. As the monastery tries desperately to scope out the queen, a once thought lost spirit begins to guide the residents.
It seems a long lost prophecy is finally coming to fruition.

Aurelia is the granddaughter of the king of Athos. She stays at the monastery due to her studies and a certain family situation that she refuses to reveal. She is very gentle and kind. She’s best friends with Edmund.
She has a high to medium voice and has a British accent (preferably).
(Tsking) If it’s bothering you so much, Edmund, talk to your parents about it. I’m sure they’ll at least try to understand.
(Giggles) Edmund, you’re simply too much.
(Trying to comfort him) We’re in this together, edmund. I promise.
Edmund is the son of the monastery leader and a minister in the monastery. He was adopted after his village burned to the ground. He is very cautious and quiet and kind. He loves his family and will always stick by his best friend. He’s prone to having nightmares about his village. Despite his stature, he is strong when he needs to be.
He has a medium to low voice.
(Gently) I’m just..scared, I guess.you have a way with people, Aurelia. I don’t.
(Angrily) Stay. Back.
(Sniffs, trying to stop crying) Mom..I... I’m sorry...I’m sorry....I shouldn’t be crying over something that happened years ago...
Akuma is a Wolven prince. His wicked step-mother recently exiled him and his brother, and their arrival to the monastery kicks off the plot. He is very gracious, polite and quiet.
He has a Mideum range voice. Akuma has a higher voice than his brother, so check out the auditions for midnight for reference. He doesn’t come off as princely, but does come off and a gentle soul.
(In desperation) Please! Somebody help!
(In relief) I’m in your debt.
(Whispering) It’s okay, Genji.
Midnight is Akuma’s sickly elder brother. The was the heir to the throne before their step-mother exiled them. He may be weak, but he makes up for it with his smarts. He’s an expect tactician. Midnight is gentle and very docile.
Midnight has a medium-low voice. He is calm and collected, but his voice is soft, shakey and weak.
(Coughing, reassuring) please...don’t fret, little brother.
(Determined) I dint confine the Wolven Queen’s actions, sir.
(Instructing) Follow my lead, stick to the plan.
Winston is the minister at the monastery. He is in his late 40s and the adoptive father of Edmund and biological father of Faun. He is a very serious and calm man. He loves his family more than anything and would do anything for them. He is very loving and gentle, but has some over protective tendencies.
He has a mid to low voice range.
(Distracted) Yes, Edmund? I’m very busy, what is it?
(Chuckles sheepishly) You can’t blame me for being worried, my beloved. You take on so much, I just want you both to be safe and happy.
(Nervously)A voice? What did it say?
Genji is a peasant Elf that arrived with Akuma and Midnight. He’s also Akuma’s boyfriend. He is very stoic and somewhat hostile due to being run out of his village. Behind closed doors, however, he is very affectionate and doting.
He has a medium-low voice. He tends to sound very regal and and proper. Despite how it seems, his voice is gentle.
(Sounding unsure) You’re certain we can trust them, Akuma?
(Growls) Trust is a very fickle thing, Sir. Once it’s lost, it can’t be regained.
(Softly, In adoration) dearest, you are positivity resplendent.
Odette is Winston’s wife. She’s in her mid to late 30s. She also runs the monastery. The duties were passed down to her from her mother. Her ancestors established it in hopes that it would provide a safe place for all creatures in Astromel. She is Edmund’s adoptive mother, Fauna’s biological mother, and is expecting her second child. She is patient, kind and loving. She has a big heart, and all she wants is to help others. She can be a bit stubborn, but her heart is usually in the right place.
Her voice is high to medium range, and comes off as very calm and collected.
(Calming) Shh, Shh, Shh....Edmund, it’s okay. Don’t cry, sweetheart. It’s alright. You’re alright.
(Frightened) Edmund! Faun! Are you two alright?
(Chuckles softly, reassuring) Sweetie, I love you, I really do. but you can stop fussing over me. I’m pregnant, not useless.
Clairice is a mysterious spirit that’s laid dormant for decades. She is very business like and gets straight to the point. She acts as a guide for our two main heroes. She’s very distant, which is very concerning for our heroes.
She has a very high pitched voice.
(Calling) Aurelia.....Edmund...can you hear me?
(Laughs) Oh, you silly boy. No, no, we’re not done yet.
(Sighs, frustrated) you two need to look at the big picture.
Faun is Edmund’s adoptive little sister. She often tries to join him on his adventures, but usually ends up being left behind fir her own safety. She is a very bubbly, friendly and sweet. She loves her family and wants to make her parents proud.
She has a medium-high voice. Think 9-12 years old.
(frustrated) Big brother! Why can’t I just join you?!
(Gently) Father? What’s wrong?
