The Forest Spirits
Project Overview
The Forest Spirits is a short animated film inspired by the Native American literature of Tuscarora chief Elias Johnson. It tells the story of Coyote, an arrogant young warrior as he is tormented by spirits he offended and seeks redemption. Coyote travels through a mystical land on his quest filled with evil spirits, cannibalistic giants and insect like monsters.

Coyote is an arrogant and cowardly warrior who is too cocky for his own good. This causes him to offend power spirits that wreak havoc on his village. He struggles to find his courage and redemption.
Hey, cowards! You claim to be powerful but you're afraid of a woman who eats acorns?
What do you mean "no?!" You will let my people die?!
This is all my fault...I know what I have to do.
Powerful demonic entities that are ruthless and easily offended.
Are you calling us weak, human?
Every action has a consequence, foolish human.
And for your action, the consequence is the destruction of every living thing in your village.
The chief of the village that banishes Coyote.
Your arrogance has brought the wrath of the spirits down upon our village, Coyote!
(sternly) Until that giant is destroyed you have no place among us, Coyote.
The final verdict, Coyote.
An angry warrior who wants Coyote banished from the village for his reckless actions.
I say we banish him from the village forever!
They destroyed our homes! Our people!
He has no place among us.
Coyote's sister who supports him but reluctantly has to watch him go.
Coyote, you know you can't be here.
Innocent lives were taken...children...
A form of the Great Spirit, Tarenyawagon is a mystical deity with who guides Coyote on the right path.
You take false credit for killing the stone giant and now you dare ask for my help?
You have the power to do this on your own, Coyote. Don't pretend to be a great warrior--become one.
