The End of All Things Podcast

Project Overview

Hey guys- Katherine here, and I’m writing a podcast!! Yay!!

We hope to pay actors, but payment will depend on Patreon donations, so payment is undetermined at the moment. You can find our Patreon HERE.

The time frame is undetermined at the moment, and it will depend on the amount of support/participants we end up receiving. However, we do plan to do multiple several-episode seasons.

VOICE ACTOR REQUIREMENTS:

  • -any recording mic that isn't purely laptop/phone

  • -flexibility

  • -willingness to record several other monologues after the initial audition for specific characters

“The End of All Things” is an apocalyptic podcast bouncing between diary entries of characters going on three different journeys after a bunch of random, crazy, supernatural events start taking place, such as unpredictable storms, random glasses shattering, earthquakes, sporadic temperature changes, and other things.

Three groups of teenagers set out on three different journeys to save their families, traveling across apocalyptic America and encountering dangerous natural disasters, terrifying gangs, and a league of supernatural beings along the way.

TRANSGENDER, FTM; Nicky was kicked out by his parents for getting fired moments before the supernatural events begin and is invited on Emma and Zanna’s journey. Nicky is dyslexic and had ADHD, so while he struggled in school he is extremely clever, yet has a hard time focusing. He is chatty, social, affectionate, and loves making jokes, though he rarely takes things seriously and therefore argues a lot with Emma despite getting along well with Zanna.

  • any 2-3 minute monologue, as his lines have not been finalized; once they have, all those who have auditioned for him will be contacted with the required lines. (This will be updated once lines are finalized)

Cara’s younger brother who lives in New Mexico with his dad, Max, and his stepmom, Lucy. Samson loves to read and is incredibly good in school. He’s autistic and finds it hard to prioritize things, focus, and interact with others, and he relies heavily on his dad, his sister, and, during the events of this story, his step-sister, Rachel, for emotional support.

  • Rachel? (shouts) Rachel!
    (pause)
Okay. (sighs) So, um, hello, Dad. And hello Lucy, I guess, if you're here too. Or you might be dead. Either one of you might be dead, I guess....
    (pause)
Fine. Okay. So, I'm Samson Adams. I'm eleven. I'm here with my step-sister, Rachel Adams.
    (pause)
Sorry. She's fourteen. We're right now in our garage, and Rachel is packing a backpack of supplies. We're going off to find you, since after the earthquake we couldn't contact you guys.
    (pause)
    I... don't know if I can.

lesbian; Zanna is punk, self-confident, and borderline conceded. She comes from a rich family where she practically had to fend for herself, so she is used to keeping herself isolated and likes it that way. She is tough, sassy, and loves teasing people, especially her old crush, Emma Burke. She runs into Emma on her journey to locate her family and decides to join her since she has nowhere else to go, and she goes through an emotional transformation as she begins to realize that her tough-girl act won’t help her survive.

  • any 2-3 minute monologue, as her lines have not been finalized; once they have, all those who have auditioned for her will be contacted with the required lines. (This will be updated once lines are finalized)

bisexual; Nathaniel is the second-oldest of 8 kids being raised by his emotionally unstable widowed mother, Maya, and he and his older sister, Emma, have taken on parental roles in their family. However, he always struggled socially, and never spoke in school. He is incredibly artistic, however, and is used to putting on a brave face and putting others’ needs before his own. He’s a worrier, but will often cover it up for the sake of others, and suffers from anxiety. He’s incredibly passionate and opinionated.

  • Cara passed out again. She's been doing that in and out since the quake, which is part of the reason we're resting here.
I'm Nathaniel, by the way. Nathaniel Burke.
Cara and I agreed to share this thing, since we decided to travel together. We shared the horrifying yet satisfying trauma of witnessing all of our classmates die-
I mean, just horrifying. Not satisfying. (mutters) but most of them were dicks....
Anyways, Cara told me that she needed to get to New Mexico to see her brother. I asked if she wanted to go see her Mom and Dad, and she said "step-dad", so I asked if she wanted to go see her mom and step-dad, and she said no, they're both asshats, and then passed out again, so I picked her up and carried her out of the parking lot and onto some grass.
This turned out to be a smart move, because then all the cars in the lot melted like popsicles. I don't know how the hell they melted, but they did, and suddenly the parking lot was full of shiny, multi-colored liquid, and this liquid dissolved into the pavement as easily as if it were water.
When Cara got up again, I told her I was going to go with her, and she said "sure, whatever," and I told her I needed to stop by my house first and she said "then don't come I need to go now" and I said "we need supplies and also I'm pretty sure you need medical attention since you keep passing out" and then she passed out and I carried her about a mile until she woke up again and yelled at me for carrying her, and then we stopped to rest in this abandoned barn because it suddenly began pouring rain out of nowhere.
I didn't tell Cara that the main reason I wanted to stop by my house was to check on my siblings. I know my older sister Emma should be handling everything, but there's six younger ones that are probably losing their minds right now, and I don't know how the hell my crazy mother is going to react, so I should at least stop by and make sure I can afford to go to New Mexico.
(sighs) Why am I even going to New Mexico? I know I'm worried about Cara, but why would I leave my whole family to Emma?
(sighs again) Because I don't want to watch them get hurt if something like the school happens again.

bisexual; Nathaniel’s older sister who helps raise their siblings with him. Emma is witty, strong, intelligent, and athletic, and she was one of the more popular girls in high school. Despite her gifts, she didn’t go to college in order to help support her family and refuses to cry or show any emotion that isn’t positive to keep their spirits up. She is at work when the supernatural events begin, and returns home hours later only to find that her nearly crazy mother has taken six of her siblings out of school and run off with them, so after searching their farmhouse for any sign of them, she explains the situation to Nathaniel and sets of after them.

  • Nathaniel Burke's time of death will be whenever the hell he gets back home.

Seriously, I don't know what the hell is up with him, if he's already dead or he's just going to be for ignoring my last eighty-two phone calls, but he's been ignoring my last eighty-two phone calls, and Emma Marie Burke will not stand for this.
I know it may seem inappropriate to continue my audio diary in the wake of all that's happened today, but I've kept this bitch going strong for eight years now, and I need something to keep me sane while I track down my family.
Yes, diary, you heard that right; track down my family.
I was at the grocery store when it began. There I was, minding my own business, shopping for cheese, when suddenly the jar of pickles in my cart spontaneously combusted, showering my purse in pickle juice.
As if I didn't already hate pickles enough.
Suddenly, a woman started screaming in the next aisle over, so I abandoned my food and ran over to see what was going on. She was in the freezer aisle, and the sliding glass door in front of her had shattered, covering her in shards of glass. She was bleeding.
I quickly grabbed my pickle-soaked purse and fled from the shop, knowing that I needed to head home to check on my siblings. I barely ever left them alone with Mom, and of course one of the few time that I did random glasses were exploding.
As soon as I left the store, the ground began to shake, but I just kept running. If only I had brought the car, I thought, but I had left it in our driveway so that Nathaniel could take it to work when he got home from school.
When I finally got home, however, the car was gone. I ran inside. My family was gone. June, Kyle, Timothy, Sarah, Cassie, Maya... all gone. Mom was gone, too. But someone was there.
Zanna Wright, the rich punk girl who had asked me to skip prom with her last year when I was a senior and she was a junior.
"What the hell are you doing in my house?" I had asked her.
She ignored me. (snotty voiced impression) "Looks like your family skipped town," she noted.
    (pause)
(sighs) If you didn't notice, Zanna still hasn't left. Apparently, she's going to come with me to find my damn mother.
    (pause)
I believe your exact words were (same snotty voiced impression) "I have nothing better to do".
(sighs) We're leaving as soon as I figure out what happened to Nathaniel. I can't... (voice breaks) I can't risk losing him, too.

pansexualr; Samson’s stepsister and Lucy’s daughter, Rachel has always been independent and tough due to her mother’s emotional distance. She prefers doing things herself and isolating herself to avoid being let down by people, but when Lucy and her step-dad, Max, go missing, she takes Samson under her wing and becomes extremely close to him as they search for their parents.

  • So, there we were: me and Sammy, playing hooky from school since I didn't feel like driving during the thunderstorm.
    Sorry, guys.
Then the weirdest thing happened; the storm was just... gone. It disappeared. Poof. The only evidence that it had stormed at all was the rain left on the pavement. I was glad because I hate storms, but then I wasn't glad.
    Because then the earthquake started.
I pulled Samson into a doorway, and bookshelves fell over and knickknacks fell off the shelves and our kitchen table completely collapsed. Sammy was crying, and when the shaking stopped I pulled out my phone and immediately tried to call Max.
I would've called you, Mom, but I know you always drive the two of you to work, and I was trying to be smart. I'm only pointing this out because I know how jealous you get, so get over it.
    Where was I? Oh.
Max didn't pick up. I called a few more times, then I called Mom, and nothing. Samson was crying even harder, saying he wanted to talk to Cara, so I looked up her school's  number and called them. Samson tried to talk to her, but he was getting overwhelmed and had to hang up.
I told him it would be fine and that we would go find you guys. I know you work two hours away, but it shouldn't be that hard to find you, right? We'll just...
    Oh, shit.
    (pause)
My car. My car is completely and totally gone. Just... a pit in the middle of our street, exactly the size of my car.
Okay, this... might take a little longer than I thought.

bisexual; Cara comes from a broken family: her parents are divorced, and her dad, Max, stepmother, Lucy, and autistic  younger brother, Samson, live across the country in New Mexico while Cara lives in Missouri with her constantly working mom, Leah, and stepdad, Carl, the latter of which she has never really cliqued with. After the divorce when she was ten, the previously extroverted Cara retreated into herself and became a lot less outgoing. However, that didn’t stop her from sarcastically judging and thinking about everything around her in her head. When the supernatural events begin taking place, Cara is frustrated and her previously extroverted self comes forth as she takes it upon herself to travel from Missouri to New Mexico to find her brother and keep him safe. She is sassy, strong, impatient, and refuses to be seen as weak, even though she’s not as brave as she acts. She has trust issues, but she cares deeply about those close to her.

  • So. There's, um, some stuff going on.
I wasn't going to do this; I mean, keeping a diary is for kids, right? But if Mrs. Rasmussen's history class taught me anything, it's that when shit goes down, it's important for future generations that there's some sort of record of exactly what kind of shit went down.
    And shit has gone down.
So, here we are; me, Cara Adams, a 18-year-old high school student from Missouri, and Nathaniel Burke, my 17-year-old classmate who I've never heard speak a word since he walked into my Freshman bio class nearly four years ago.
Here we are, taking shelter in an abandoned farm about five miles from the ruins of our school.
    Yes, shelter.
    Yes, ruins.
Maybe I should back up a bit.

  • So, there I was: minding my own business, not paying attention to anything my Calculus teacher was saying, when Sarah Gregory's water bottle exploded.
Of course everyone laughed; it was such a random thing, it scared the shit out of Mr. Brady, and everyone knew that Sarah was such an addict that the shattered glass probably had something to do with the vodka she most likely had put in it.
When the same thing happened to the coffee thermos on class president Michael Walsh's desk, however, people began to realize that Sarah Gregory's drunk habit weren't to blame.
Foley Marsh, the idiot that he is, immediately began screaming that we were being shot at despite our classroom not having any windows, and Wendy Taylor began sobbing that she "didn't deserve to die". Although, let's be honest; if this was the rapture, she'd be punished for sure for what she did with Michael Allen in the bathroom at his party last weekend.
But then it stopped. Two beverage containers in shards on the classroom floor, a bunch of students freaking out, and no explanation. Nothing else happened, so Mr. Brady called a custodian and went on with the lesson.
Then one of the office ladies -the slutty one- came to our classroom and announced that I had a phone call in the front office and needed to come right away. I didn't need to be told twice, so I picked up my bag and left the room without a word, pushing past Ms. Slut and leaving her behind me.
The phone call, surprisingly, was from my 11-year-old brother Samson. Sammy lives in New Mexico with Dad, our step-monster Lucy, and her daughter Rachel, and I missed him like crazy.
"Sammy? Why aren't you at school?" I asked him. Then I realized he was crying, and my protective-big-sister-mode switched on. "What's wrong?"
"Dad and Lucy," he sobbed. "There was an earthquake... Rachel can't reach them...."
"What? Sammy, are you okay?" I asked, and then the line went dead.
I have to get to New Mexico. That's the only thought that ran through my head.
"Excuse me," I said to one of the office ladies, the one who thought she was the slutty one, "I suddenly feel ill. Can I go home?" I was using my best 'feel bad for me, I'm so very nice' voice, and the dumbass bought it. Dumbass.
She let me sign myself out, and as I began walking out of the building, someone grabbed my arm from behind and began dragging me outside.
"Hey!" I protested, because I was not getting kidnapped today, "Let me go!" I wrenched myself free from his grasp once we were outside of the school and found myself face-to-face with silent nerd Nathaniel Burke.
"No time," he mumbled, taking me aback; those were the first words I had heard him say in four years. "Come on!"
"I'm not going anywhere with you!" I had begun, but I was cut off by the ground shaking.
"Run!" Nathaniel shouted, and I pushed aside my usual stubbornness in place of common sense and ran with him towards the parking lot.
He pulled me down behind an ugly yellow pickup truck while we waited for the shaking to pass, and the ear-splitting sound of crumbling and shattering made me blackout.
