The Doom the Came to Sarnath

The Doom the Came to Sarnath

Project Overview

The project is my final year film in my MA character animation course.

The film will be approximately 3 minutes long.

It is an adaptation of H.P Lovecraft's short story "The Doom that Came to Sarnath", though reworked a good bit to make for a more cohesive storyline.

The role in question is that of the narrator of the plot itself. More details are available in the more detailed box concerning the role.

Thank you very much, hope to hear from you!

My end of year film for my animation course is an adaptation of H.P Lovecraft's "The Doom that Came to Sarnath". The storyteller is an old, decrepit, hunchbacked and raspy voiced beggar who goes from town to town, telling stories and barely getting by. The setting is inspired partially by the One thousand and one nights, and on fables and the like, though a particularly ethnic accent is not required. Though the role has a dramatic edge, over-acting would be detrimental to the atmosphere I feel, so something more subtly eerie and unsettling would be perfect.

The story he is telling is one of prejudice, hatred, violence and curses and eldritch magic, much in the vein of Lovecraft's horror stories, especially since it's based on one of his works.

The film itself will be around 3 minutes long, with about a page worth of lines when it comes to technical specifics.

Oh, and as a further note; "Mnar" is pronounced "Manar".

Thank you very much for reading!

  • In Mnar, there is a lake, fed by no stream, and from which no
    stream flows. Ages
ago, Sarnath and Ib were on its shores, but …they are no more.
