Hello everyone! So every part has finally been cast. Whew! Thank you so much to everyone who auditioned, and depending on how the reading goes today, I might to another one!
The Darkness of Laylah-Reading-ADULT FEMALE VOICE NEEDED
Project Overview
This will be a Skype reading for a script that I wrote. The reading will take place on Saturday March 18th, at 4:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. I'm not sure how long it will take to read through the whole script-it's 43 pages, but please do not audition if you are not available on the date or if you can't stay for at least an hour and a half. (That's how long I assume it will be) This is a casual reading, at the moment I don't know if the script will be made into anything. This is just so I can hear some actors read my script and maybe get feedback on it.
REQUIREMENTS:
-Must have Skype
-Must have a decent quality microphone
-Must be available on Saturday March 18th, 4:00 PM Eastern Standard Time
-Must be okay with mild swearing
-Must be able to stay in the call for at least an hour and a half
-Must be kind to your fellow actors.
SYNOPSIS:
Callum and his wife Danielle have a daughter named Laylah, but Callum’s dream is visited by a spirit named Auralee on the night she’s born. Auralee tells him that Laylah must die because she’ll grow up to be an evil sorceress. Callum decides to ignore Auralee’s warning, determined Laylah won’t become this. However, the dark future comes to pass despite his efforts.

I'm happy to announce that Laylah, Maximus, Edgar, Lysander, and Auralee have been cast. I sent all the cast actors a link to join the skype conversation, please do so as soon as possible. I still need people to play Danielle and Callum though, so maybe if you auditioned for other parts and didn't get them, give those a try! Also, if you could maybe recommend this casting call to other people, that would also be very helpful. Thank you!

Callum is a kind and gentle man who loves his family but can be a tad irresponsible as a parent. Most of the story has him at 52, but at the start he's 32 and at the end 62. He spends one scene as 42. Make sure to show some age in your voice!
Line 1: This is where he's holding his daughter for the first time a few minutes after she's born. He says this to his wife after naming his daughter.
Line 2: This is after he's visited by the spirit Auralee who shows him a vision of what Laylah will do in the future. He can hardly believe what he just saw and is particularly angry and confused after being told he has to kill his daughter.
Line 3: Laylah just ran into her room in anger after saying some concerning things. He goes to confront her, only to find she escaped her room through the window.
She's going to be amazing, Danielle. I know it.
No...she won't become that...that monster. I'll make sure of it.
Laylah? Laylah open this door right now! *Opens the door* Oh god...

Line 1: Laylah just ran into her room in anger after saying some concerning things. This her trying to comfort her.
Line 2: This is after Callum tells her about Laylah's first act as a sorceress that she did in the square. Danielle is upset and wonders if Callum is thinking what she's thinking.
Line 3: This is after Callum goes to the castle to try and save Lysander from Laylah. He's been gone all night and she was insanely worried.
Laylah we're worried about you. You've been so...aggressive lately.
If you could go back to when she was born, listen to that spirit all over again…would you kill her?
There you are! *Gets up and hugs him* You had me worried sick! I stayed up all night waiting for you, what happened?

Laylah used to be a wonderful and sweet child but became corrupted by dark magic making her an intimidating and confident sorceress who people live in fear of. She spends a few scenes as a 13 year old, and one scene as a 31 year old. She spends the majority of the film at 21. Make sure to show some age in your voice!
Line 1: This is when she's 13 and telling Maximus that she'd like to be his new apprentice. She thinks all magic is wonderful and has no idea what she's getting herself into.
Line 2: This is her first act in the square as a sorceress. She's holding a blue flame in her hand at the ready. All power and attention is hers at this moment and she's loving it.
Line 3: This is a few moments after the second line, Callum has run into the square to try and stop her. She counters by telling him nothing he can do will stop her.
Yes. I’ve always wanted to do magic! I don’t know why anyone would think it to be bad.
Attention Kingdom of Maimid! I am Laylah. Mistress of the dark, and your new queen. I will overthrow your King Edgar. Then you all shall bow before me, and anyone who says otherwise will be severely punished. Don’t try and stop me, it will be in vain.
I cannot be stopped. Since when have you ever cared anyways father? You were never there for me. You grew suspicious but never confronted me. You didn’t care enough to.

Maximus is the one who taught Laylah to use her magic and gave her the motivation to overthrow the king. He's very intelligent and thinks what he's doing is right.
Line 1: This is him complaining about the royal guard taking away his previous apprentice.
Line 2: Maximus giving Laylah her first magic lesson. He is very serious about this rule, it's probably the most important one.
Line 3: Maximus praising Laylah's work.
They think my magic is evil. That I was ‘polluting the child’s mind’ Or something.
This is your spell book. This is everything you are and you must never let anyone else see its contents. Understand?
I’d say the dark has practically consumed you by now. King Edgar’s days are numbered.

Line 2: Auralee tries to convince Callum that Laylah is evil.
Line 3: This is her final warning to Callum
You may think she is lovely. You may think she is beautiful. But there is darkness within her.
You saw the pain she put that poor man through. You heard his screams.

Line 1: This is Edgar testing his son on how to be a good king. This is one of the questions.
Line 2: This is when Laylah barges into the castle demanding the kingdom. Edgar refuses to give it to her.
Line 3: Edgar's final plea to Laylah before she stabs him in the stomach.
Now, let’s say we have a man who attempted to murder someone. What would you do?

Lysander is the prince of Maimid. He can be a little naïve and is very reckless but loves his kingdom and tries his best.
Line 1: He just saw his father get stabbed and ran to his side. He's terrified and desperately tries to calm himself down.
Line 2: Callum just told him that he forgives Laylah despite what she's done. Lysander is angry and confused and can't believe what he's hearing.
Line 3: Callum is visiting him at the clinic after he was severely injured by Laylah. He's still pretty weak from their battle, and he apologizes for lashing out at Callum.
Save your voice, you’re going to be fine. Everything’s going to be fine!
What?! How can you still love her after this?! She’s a murderer!
Callum…thank you so much. Y-you were right. You’ve always been right…I’m sorry.

Line 1: A royal guard, he/she just ran into the castle to warn Edgar that Laylah is approaching the castle. He/she's completely out of breath.
Line 2: A villager, reacting to Laylah warning the people of what she's going to do.
Line 3: A doctor, telling Callum that Danielle has successfully given birth.
She already killed a man in the square. Sire, you have to get out of here.
Our king will never fall to the likes of you!
Callum? You have a daughter waiting for you.
