Winter's Toll (SVA Third Year Short Film)
Project Overview
INTRODUCTION
- Hello!! I'm an animation major at the School of Visual Arts and I'm looking for voice talent for my third year short film "Winter's Toll." The tile is currently a placeholder, I'm not sure if it will be final. If you have any title ideas, feel free to recommend some!
- This short film follows a young cat searching for ingredients to cure her mother’s illness, only for one of them to be stolen right as she finds it. The young cat and the supposed thief fight over the ingredients until they both realize they're in the same dire situation.
- I'm planning for it to run about two minutes or two and a half minutes at most in length and for it to be finished late April.
I'm looking for voices for the two main characters of the film! They only have about a line or two each, as there's only a few lines of dialog towards the end. I'm also looking for music to be composed for the film if possible. - The animatic is complete, and I'm currently beginning the rough animation. Credit will be given at the end of the film with whichever name or username you would prefer! I plan to post it on social media after submitting it to film festivals. I'm on a budget as I'm a full-time college student, but every accepted position will be paid.
- I used this site to cast voices for my second year film last year, and I'm back again to cast some for my third. I truly appreciate every audition I receive; thank you for taking the time out of your day to read about my film and/or send an audition in!
IMPORTANT INFO
- Payment is in USD and will be sent through PayPal
- Must be willing to provide additional voice foley such as gasps, sighs, grunts, breaths, etc.
- A good, clear mic is required
- Try to keep your audition takes to a minimum, 2-3 takes per line. Feel free to show off your voice foley skills as well if you'd like
- Please provide your audition in a single file if possible
- Files should be in .wav (preferably) or .mp3 format
- I'd prefer to contact those who get roles through discord, but email is fine as well. Feel free to contact me if you have questions!
DEADLINES AND AUDITIONS
- The current deadline is February 9th, which is in about 5 days since the posting of this casting call. I need the dialog for my film as soon as possible after that date, but if you get the role and need a few extra days, please let me know.

- Looking for a voice that would fit an intimidating, lone wolf type character who cares deep down
- Masculine voice for sure, preferably on the lower/deeper range (but not too forced; if you have a higher masculine voice and think you can nail the vibes of the character, please audition as well!)
- I'm planning for him to only speak one line
- He will need a good amount of voice foley as well (gasps, sighs, breaths, grunts, etc.) feel free to include some in your audition if you would like!

My best attempt at describing the type of music I'm looking for
- I'm looking for background music to accompany my short film!
- I can provide the storyboard animatic for rough timing and tone changes, but I'll do my best to describe what happens (I'm not a musician, apologies in advance!)
- It's set in a winter forest. The tone goes from somber to hopeful, then adventurous, then into conflict (with a slo-mo scene), then a sad more quiet moment, back to hopeful and somber, and ending with a happy tone. I hope any of that made some sense!!
- String instruments, piano, and/or wind instruments may fit the winter forest theming best (plus any complimentary instruments or sounds as well of course)
- The total length of the film will be around two minutes/two and a half minutes in length
- Payment won't be much more than $20 of course because I'm a full-time college student on a budget, but I truly wish I could offer more
- If you're not a musician but know of a copyright free music source that may fit my film, please let me know!
