Project Overview
What is this?
A fan dub of the Splatoon CoroCoro Manga series - specifically covering the Square King Rank Battle Cup Arc. This project is going to be edited with the illustrations straight from the manga itself and brought to life through vocal dubs and a touch of animation.
For those unfamiliar with the series: the Splatoon manga is about the life of four inklings getting caught up in turf wars; four vs. four battles in which each team tries to paint the ground with the most of their ink color. Team blue inherits the nickname, "team ridiculous", as they battle to win tournaments. Facing challenges, they work together in creative and ridiculous ways to reach victory. Along the way, their opponents become stronger and team blue make many unexpected friends.
Appraisal in regard to payment/monetary compensation:
This fan dub is 100% NON-PROFIT! NO ONE is getting paid, not even me, (director/editor). It needs to be understood ahead of time that participation in this manga dub is all 100% voluntary with NO EXPECTATION of any form of monetary compensation.
The benefits of participating in this project: Your name will be credited in each manga dub episode that your voice is in, not to mention the invaluable experience you will gain, (which you can take with you into your voice acting career and use on your resume).
Requirements:
Even though participation in this manga dub project is voluntary, there are still expectations for anyone who wishes to participate:
- Have a sense of commitment to the project when it comes to meeting deadlines.
- Use reliable/capable equipment for recording vocal performances.
- Submit clear/articulate work without any overwhelming background noises or excessive peaking/clipping.
- Display a certain level of professionalism and respect the rest of the team when any communication is being made.
- Working relationships with the rest of the team isn't required but is encouraged.
Role Significance:
Though team blue is the main team of focus in the manga dub, other team leaders have main roles in the dub also. There are many other supporting characters and minor characters with small amounts of dialogue. Some Splatoon teams will only be present in the manga dub once, and for now, those teams will not have slots open for vocal casting. As of right now, I’m only looking for voice actors for the main roles first.
If you are casted for a main role, please don’t be surprised if you are asked to also, perhaps, audition for a minor role as well and voice act for more than one character. For the sake of not being too overwhelming all at one time, I don’t have all the minor roles open for audition yet. More minor roles will be available for audition at a later date. If you would like to try out for a minor role, you are always welcome to inquire about a specific character that you’d like to audition for.
A few final notes:
1.) I am a huge fan of the Splatoon manga series, and although this project is an INTERPRETATION of the manga, the purity/integrity of the manga is very important to me. Therefore, there will be NO HEADCANONS in this manga dub!
2.) This is not an official dub, nor do I own this property.
3.) Discord is not required but is recommended as it is really easy to get in touch, communication-wise. You can reach out to my discord @-prinz-#7446. (If you are casted, you will receive an invite to a discord server surrounding the project. You do not have to join, and/or we can work out communication a different way.)
4.) PLEASE DO NOT SLATE YOUR AUDITIONS. (Ad lib off script, plug/promote, divert from topic, etc.)
5.) COMMITMENT IS KEY. If you are afraid to raise your voice when you are recording, this may not work for you. (Remember, know what you are saying and know what you want to sound like. React as if you are the character. If they should yell, then yell.)

GOGGLES- Inkling Boy on Team Blue:
Goggles is extremely friendly and a hopeless optimist. He is always trying to lift his teammates' spirits, believing his team can win matches against all odds, and being a good sport after the battles end no matter the outcome. Even if his opponents act in a rude manner towards him and his team, he always looks forward to becoming friends with them. He is sincere, naive, innocent-minded, jokingly immature, scatterbrained and carefree, with a humble and caring heart. He is often late, loves to play jokes on other’s by ‘pantsing’ them, (pulling down his friends' pants at unconventional times), mishears what others say and gets it confused, dresses up in ridiculous costumes, and sometimes unintentionally finds himself forgetting to wear his clothes. The jar of pickled plums he snacks on from his grandmother often finds its way on the battlefield by accident. However, at rare times, he is shown to have a serious side.

Youthful, energetic, optimistic, peppy, scatterbrained, friendly, enthusiastic
Example:
(Shrieking in fear/surprise/shock) “I GUESS THEY CAME OFF!! I DIDN'T NOTICE!”
(Loud and proud) “Everyone says that!”
(Yelling in anger) “WHATEVER EGGPLANT HEAD!”
SPECS- Inkling Boy on Team Blue:
Specs is the most knowledgeable about the logistics of battles in Turf Wars on his team. Along with this, he is knowledgeable about prominent Turf War players like Rider and the S4. Despite appearing as one of the more reasonable members of Team Blue, he's been shown to argue with Goggles over trivial things like the best way to eat ice cream. Specs is best described as a "no-nonsense, rational-thinking” type of guy, where he either expresses exhaustion at others' antics or is the victim of them. He also seems to easily become jealous, and gets easily angered when others act pretentious, arrogant, or cocky, (like when Gloves starts talking about how well he's been doing and how popular he is).
Additionally, Specs is often forgotten altogether. He often seems anxious or even paranoid, and though he does have moments of confidence, far more often than not they are immediately followed by his confidence immediately getting shot back down. He often yells a lot, accompanied by his eyes popping out of his glasses.

Must have ability to scream, panicky, flustered, unconfident, slightly pitchy, mid-toned voice
(Intimidated) “H-He's going to tear our squid legs off…”
(Yelling) “WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?! STUPID!”
(Supportive) “Yeah. There's no doubt about that!”
HEADPHONES- Inkling Girl on Team Blue:
Headphones is down-to-earth and arguably the most reasonable member of Team Blue. She, along with Specs, seems to be a worrywart, easily intimidated, trembling and crying when up against scary opponents. Although, she's been able to pick up her confidence and has developed a much more determined outlook when it comes to battles.
Her team is her top priority; she mainly uses charger class weapons to watch over her teammates and does what she can to ensure Goggles stays out of trouble. She is unsure of herself even though she knows she is a good player and is easily thrown off by even the smallest thing.
Type of voice I’m looking for:
Nervous, unconfident, must have ability to shriek, rich tone, clarity/articulate
(Gathered up confidence) “Okay...! I'll do my best! For my team!”
(Yelling angrily) “I TOLD YOU TO WEAR CLOTHES, DIDN'T I?!”
(Unsure) “Do you think we can win?”
BOBBLE HAT- Inkling Girl on Team Blue:
Bobble Hat is a cheerful, happy-go-lucky, naive, carefree Inkling who is constantly sporting an innocent grin on her face. Unlike most of her teammates, she seems to find Goggles’ antics funny rather than annoying, (and sometimes she joins in!). She often laughs in the face of danger, seemingly finding pretty much every situation funny or exciting, regardless of the actual consequences.

Sweet, innocent, childish, naive, cheerful/joyful, carefree/unworried, bouncy/playful, optimistic
Example:
(Cheerful) “Burst bomb!!”
(Playfully) “We're dead meat!! Ahahaha!”
(Determined) “If I get hit, I'll never pet a puppy again!!”
RIDER- Inkling Boy on Team Yellow/Green:
Rider is a popular strong player throughout Inkopolis, being well-known for being a lone wolf. At first, Rider seemed to be egotistical, as he did not care for his teammates and gathered them only so he could be eligible to participate in the tournament. He sees many people as rivals and finds them to be annoying. However, after battling against Goggles and his team, Rider is more caring of his teammates although his serious attitude remains. He has recently found battles to be fun and enjoys himself despite letting his seriousness get to his head sometimes, at the expense of team cooperation.
Type of voice I’m looking for:
Low, deep, serious, intense, menacing/tough
Example:
(Intimidating) “You only need one good player to win a turf war.”
(Demanding) “You guys do exactly what I say.”
(Pissed) “YOU BEAT ME, THEN LOST THE SECOND MATCH?!”
ARMY- Inkling Boy on Team Orange:
Army is a member of the elite ranking S4 and the leader of Team Orange. Though he is punctual, he is not always courteous towards people he finds rambunctious. He is a stickler for abiding by his team's strategic manual, dubbed the "Squid Net Manual ". He believes that being able to predict the enemy ensures certain victory. However, after being bested by Blue Team, Army seems to have softened to the idea of relying less on his team's manual and more on intuition. Much like the other members of the S4, Army has taken to the things Goggles has said about the turf war. According to the Squid Roster, Army is from a relatively noble family. His background could explain why he and his team are so studious of the battles they have participated in.

Regal/royalty, British accent, enunciating, formal speaking, mid-high tone voice
(Prideful) “Victory is everything!! It's not even worth battling if we don't win.”
(Nervous) “Curry?! My manual doesn't have any data on curry…”
(Urgent but trying to be reassuring) “Don't panic! We still have the upper hand!”
ALOHA- Inkling Boy on Team Pink:
Despite being laid-back, Aloha, (also an elite S4 member), is a skilled fighter and can easily avoid attacks. Aloha often speaks in a sing-song manner and is popular with girls. As a party animal, he tries to liven up battles with dances and music. He is also stated to hate, “uncool things”. He likes to tease those who are "weaker" than him, and often talks down at others to the point of creating uneasy tension.
Type of voice I’m looking for:
Laid back, energetic, hearty/bold tone, slight “California ‘surfer-dude/party-animal’ stereotype” accent
Example:
(Laid back) “To be honest, I'd rather lev up, cuz you guys seriously can't deal. This fight is bogus.”
(Embarrassed) “Shoot, that was so uncool.”
(Confused beyond all reason) “WHAAAAAT?! I DON'T GET THIS AT ALL!!”
MASK- Inkling Boy on Team Cyan:
Mask claims to despise happy, positive people, making him somewhat cynical. His bitter outlook explains his distaste for Aloha and Blue Team, with his biggest disgust targeted at Bobble Hat. He likes using tricky tactics both on and off the field, luring Blue Team into an ambush layed with traps during the match with an anonymous text message. Throughout the battle, he has a threatening and hostile demeanor, though Blue Team is largely unaffected. Despite his unfriendly manners, he admits to genuinely enjoying himself when he fights alongside the Cyan Team. He tends to be a 'straightforward man', especially when he's on a team with other people.

Snively, menacing, negative, snarly, nasaly

(Intimidating) “You won't be smiling once I'm done with you.”
(Annoyed) “Those dumb smirks on your faces…”
(Gloomy) “We lost to a team that enjoys life…”
SKULL- Inkling Boy on Team Purple:
Skull is the fourth elite S4 member and the leader of Team Purple and is shown to have a quiet and reserved personality. He doesn’t speak much around the other S4 members, or anyone else, and his speech usually trails off with “...” when replying to others or stating something. He speaks very monotonously, and he is usually polite, unless he is insulting someone. He used to consider everyone below him as “weaklings” until he was defeated by the Blue Team. Skull is also not a sore loser unlike some of his teammates in the S4, as he doesn’t insult others or get upset about losing; instead, he trains more and says he has another opponent he would like to face again at a later time. After being defeated by Team Blue, he seems to be getting careless as well, constantly getting lost, falling in the water, finding himself on top of high buildings looking for the weapon shop, but he has his intelligent moments as well. He has a major sweet tooth, implying he loves anything sweet. But as an air head, he tends to forget that he already ate his ice cream or pudding by thinking someone else ate it.

Serious, monotone, steady-volume, mid-low/rich tone, unsociable/withdrawn
Example:
(Caught off guard) “Is this a new type of bomb...?”
(In agreement) “Yeah... It was fun!”
(Annoyed) “I have no time for weaklings.”
AVIATORS- Inkling Boy on Team Purple:
Aviators and Skull are childhood friends. So as such, Aviators knows Skull pretty well, often commenting on Skull's actions from time to time. When Goggles asks about Skull's eyebrows, Aviators seems shocked, hinting that he knows the subject is sensitive for Skull. Aviators also knows how to keep cool, and always has a positive smirk on his face. He seems to also know how Skull is feeling, as they seem to share the same expressions throughout out the manga series. Aviators helps to correct Skull’s absent-minded mistakes and fix his confusion. He also is very friendly towards the Blue Team’s member, Specs.

(Intrigued) “That's Skull's favorite stage…”
(Teasing) “It's rare of you to accept a rematch Skull.”
(Uncomplaining/Accepting) “*sigh* We lost…”
EMPEROR- Inkling Boy on Team Emperor:
Emperor is known for being very prideful and cocky and is the leader of the highly regarded Team Emperor. Though he is strict with his brother, Prinz, and his team's actions in battle, he does seem to care for them and praises them when they do their best. During the finals match with the Blue Team, he sees his team having fun and begins to doubt their battling method. After the Square King Cup arc, Emperor leaves on a journey of self-growth and to train better, leaving Prinz in charge of the team. Since then, he has become more of a 'funnyman' but maintains his arrogant air and habit of referring to himself as, "the king", and calling others, “commoners”. Despite these quirks, he seems to genuinely want to always improve himself, and for his team.

PRINZ- Inkling Boy on Team Emperor:
At first Prinz is reserved and quiet, watching his brother command him and his team. He shows reluctance but follows orders as he is told to do. During the finals match with the Blue Team, he observes their battling style and is inspired to have fun and try new tactics. After Emperor leaves on his journey of self-discovery and growth and leaves Prinz in charge of the team, (now dubbed “Team New-peror”), Prinz listens to his team's concerns and does his best to ensure everyone is enjoying themselves. Unlike his older brother, Prinz is more empathetic and friendly, but is shown to be just as determined and hardworking.

Example:
(Genuinely enjoying himself) “I want to have fun too!”
(Concerned and nervous) “E-E-Emperor, you have to pull your pants up…”
(Confused) “They lost... but why do they look so happy...?”
SQUIDKID JR.- Inkling Boy on Team Emperor:
Squidkid Jr. appears to be rebellious and carefree in comparison to his teammates; he’s the only one of his team that wears his cuff on his right ear and keeps his jacket unbuttoned instead of being neatly buttoned up in uniform. He also frequently speaks with slang. Despite the contrast, he subtly displays a sense of superiority among his opponents by taunting them in battle. He tends to underestimate his opponents and fights with a grin, but whenever he is caught off guard, his demeanor shifts. Although he is typically silly and holds little regard for anyone, Squidkid Jr. seems to have high respect for Emperor and his opinions, as he gets flustered when making careless mistakes in Emperor’s presence and expresses genuine shame after losing against the Blue Team.

N-PACER- Inkling Girl on Team Emperor:
N-Pacer, being dubbed “the female knight”, is known for watching the back of her teammates to compensate for their short-ranged weapons. Her vigilance and attentiveness helps explain her curt responses and quietness overall. She actually prefers listening, as she noted to be seen drinking black tea while listening to her teammates converse on casual days. Coupled with her quiet and analytical nature, she is quite level-headed and has faith in her teammates.

Rich tone, mid-low tone, husky/sultry, persuasive
Example:
(Bluntly) “You're still too slow.”
(Cool headed) “No need to worry.”
(Surprised) “O-Okay!”
LACELESS- Inkling Boy on Team Emperor:
Laceless is loyal to his team and is determined to do well to live up to Team Emperor's high reputation. He feels self-imposed pressure to win, so after losing to Team X-Blood, he chastises himself and sobs for not being strong enough. However, Prinz reassures him that they all did their best.
Type of voice I’m looking for:
Child-like, mid-tone, innocent, nervous
Example:
(Determined) “I have to help my team somehow...!”
(Committing to action) “Attacking!”
(Sobbing) “If only I had been stronger…”
VINTAGE- Inkling Boy on Team X-Blood:
Vintage has a high opinion of himself and his team, refusing to associate himself with others of lower rank. He is extremely competitive and looks down on the opposing teams, believing that nobody below X rank has any chance of beating him or any chance of becoming an X ranker. He has a usually emotionless and cool-headed demeanor that can change suddenly if irritated in the slightest. He is also somewhat spiteful and vengeful, as shown when he destroyed the wall of Inklings' prayers and wishes to become stronger, calling anyone who was below X Rank "trash". Hachi described him as seeming empty inside, and Skull explained that when they were on a team together, all Vintage wanted was power. Even after his defeat, Vintage remained serious and prideful but lost his competitive nature, becoming kinder towards his team and showing more emotion.

Urgent/high-priority sounding, mid-tone, nasally, slightly monotone (not much inflection)
Example:
(Destroys wishing board) “Everyone S rank and below, are losers.”
(Empty) “As always, we just need to win.”
(Encouraging/Uplifting) “You have to work hard to rise to X rank. That is why X rankers won't lose. But it's also why you won't lose.”
OMEGA- Inkling Girl on Team X-Blood:
Omega has been Vintage's friend since childhood. She is typically quiet and doesn’t seem to talk unless she’s replying to the others. Seeing Skull enjoying himself and having fun during a battle between Team “Blueperor” and the S4 battles, compared to how he was back in their days together as a team, inspires Omega to be more vocal and congratulatory to her teammates about their teamwork.
Type of voice I’m looking for:
Mid-tone, monotone, formal, articulate
Example:
(Rejecting/Dismissing) “That's not going to happen.”
(Caught off guard) “Skull... you used to be so cold during a match.”
(Complimentary) “That teamwork move at the end was good.”
DOUBLE EGG- Inkling Boy on Team X-Blood:
Double Egg tends to underestimate his opponents' tactics and is often smug when he’s doing well, which in return often causes him to get splatted while he is caught off-guard. Double Egg and Vintage don't seem to get along for this exact reason. Double Egg also appears to cooperate well with his teammate, Red-Soled, although the two argue with each other whenever they fail.

Rude, mid-low tone, smug/arrogant, argumentative
Example:
(Taunting) “Ha! You're not even good enough to help me kill time.”
(Offended) “VINTAGE! WHAT DID YOU SAY?!”
(Arguing) “Shuddup, it's Vintage's fault!”
RED-SOLED- Inkling Girl on Team X-Blood:
Red-Soled is cheerful, but quite vexing most of the time as she enjoys taunting the other teams. She has been known to give backhanded compliments, (for instance, she mentions that Prinz is "pretty good" before Double Egg scores in a Power Clam). Despite her usual cheerful face, she quickly becomes frustrated when she finds difficulty combating the opposing team.

Example:
(Playful) “You protect me, Double Egg!”
(Arguing) “Why weren't you guarding me?!”
(Exaggerated compliment) “Ooh? You're pretty good, King's li'l bro.”
GLOVES- Inkling Boy on Team Gloves:
Gloves is a confident, sassy, and cool-headed squid. He is said to love the stylish aspect of turf wars and always follows the latest trends, be it weapons, hairstyles or gear. He often acts like a cool kid and a know-it-all, which often irritates others. However, he isn’t trying to act self-absorbed on purpose… he just wants to be considered the "freshest". He can’t stand anything that he deems "uncool".

Cool/trendy, energetic, hearty/bold tone, confident, easy-going, mid-tone
Example:
(Revelation) “What? We're losing? But that's not cool!”
(Heartbroken) “MY TENTACLES!!”
(With confidence) “Now that's cool!”
HALF-RIMZ- Inkling Boy on Team Gloves:
Half-Rimz is shown to be quite calm and collective, and he’s mostly neutral-faced. Half-Rimz doesn’t show any signs of anger, however he is quite sarcastic and laughs at others insults or when others make mistakes. His catchphrase is "interesting". Half-Rimz also seems to enjoy teasing other Inklings, such as Aviators, for attempting to take his shades off his face, and then immediately getting sniped down by Skull.

Example:
(Watching Goggles being silly) “This is funny.”
(Teasing Aviators) “Let’s take them off.”
(Giving pity to Specs' glasses) “Don’t feel bad, Glasses.”
CLIP-ONS- Inkling Girl on Team Gloves:
Clip-ons is optimistic and reassuring. She gets caught off guard and is often surprised when Gloves acts without self-awareness.

(Trying to hold in laughter after seeing Gloves go bald) “Pfft. It...It's okay, It's the newest style…”

STRAPS- Inkling Girl on Team Gloves:
Straps is cheerful and energetic. Like Clip-Ons, she gets surprised at Gloves' silly antics.

(Surprised) “He's really going to do it?!”
(Optimistic) “Let's practice for the next tournament!”
(Taunting) “We're gonna ink it more and more!”
EIGHT- Octoling Boy on Team Eight:
Eight is an octoling boy who also has amnesia, with barely any memory. He cares about his friends and is intrigued by the inklings. He goes with the flow, and doesn't mind Goggles' ridiculous actions. Ever since he met Goggles, he's looked up to Team Blue. They’ve given him an insightful view about how fun inklings are, making him excited to play turf wars with them.
Type of voice I’m looking for:
Mid-low tone, slightly husky sounding, controlled, thoughtful (contemplative)
Example:
(Concerned) “Are you alright?”
(Defensive) “DON'T MOCK THEM! They're my friends!”
(Complementing) “Booyah, Goggles!”
PEARL- Inkling Girl (Off the Hook):
Pearl speaks rather bluntly using various slang words much like a stereotypical rapper, as she emulates well. Compared to Marina, she is more expressive and quicker to jump onto topics with a bit of short temptations. Oftentimes her comments can be jokingly sarcastic, playing off her co-host.

Energetic, peppy, bouncy, child-like, loud, regal
Example:
(Introduction) “I'm Pearl, but you can call me M.C. Princess!”
(Lively) “You all know what time it is! It's off the hook!”
(Shrieking) “EEEEK!! WHAT A WEIRDO!”
MARINA- Octoling Girl (Off the Hook):
Marina is more reserved than her co-host, Pearl. She speaks in a sweet and gentle manner. She gets very excitable and can get very sassy in response to others, though there are times she becomes shy as well. She seems to be pretty forgetful at times and has been observed to forget the news topics that she and Pearl are supposed to be broadcasting. Her timidity shows when she sees an Inkling watching her through the window; when she notices them, she smiles awkwardly and waves.

(Introduction) “Marina, aka DJ_Hyper-Fresh!”
