Shantae is a half-genie charged with protecting her home, Scuttle Town. A professional belly dancer, her outfit usually consists of sheer harem pants and golden jewelry. Shantae is olive-skinned with long growing purple hair tied back in a ponytail stem stalk. Her parentage is uncertain, but it is known that her mother was a genie and there is speculation about who her father was.
Throughout the series, Shantae has had the ability to transform into many different things. Depending on the adventure and circumstance, she also has worn many different outfits.

Shantae's life-long friend and ally, Sky is a war bird trainer whose profitable egg hunts often span the known reaches of Sequin Land. Sky can't wait for Shantae to see more of the world and life's surprises, and seems to be in a hurry to grow up. Sky is a sort of desert rat, always nesting in out of the way places at length. For this reason, Shantae and Sky tend to have more unexpected reunions than planned visits. Even apart, their friendship is a strong one, and Sky's opinions hold equal value to Uncle Mimic's in Shantae's mind. Sky keeps a war bird named Wrench, and she is rarely seen without him. Wrench is a dangerous weapon and is totally reliable, even following Shantae's orders. For some reason, Wrench regards Bolo as prey, and takes every opportunity to prove it.

Risky Boots is the primary antagonist of the Shantae series. The nefarious female pirate is Shantae's nemesis and is known throughout Sequin Land for her love of wealth, power, and all shiny things. Risky is an unchallenged and self-appointed 'Queen of the Seven Seas', and will caution and toll anyone who thinks otherwise. Risky is a villain with the skills and luck usually reserved for the good guys. Capable, dominating, and deadly, Risky isn't afraid to claim what's not hers. She commands an endless army of Tinkerbats who follow her orders without question, building her weapons of war and scavenging the resources that make her schemes become reality.

Rottytops is a family member in a Zombie Clan. Rotty travels the land by caravan, gaining worldly skills and threatening to eat peoples' brains. She has two nasty brothers (Abner Cadaver and Poe) that seem capable of bringing out the worst in her whenever they're all together. Rotty is obsessed with Shantae and the challenge of corrupting her pure nature.
Even among zombies, Rottytops and her brothers are considered bad news, but Rottytops genuinely cares for Shantae. Her true feelings for Shantae are revealed through her former identity when Shantae visits the village of lost souls in The Pirate's Curse

The Chef Girl lives at the far edge of Tangled Forest with her dog Wobble Bell.
In Risky's Revenge, she dreams of travelling the world as a great chef with Wobble Bell, but loses hope in this dream when Wobble Bell goes missing.
When Shantae returns Wobble Bell to her, she cooks Shantae a Tasty Meal that can be used to get into Squid Baron's Labyrinth. The Chef Girl is demonstrably insane, as evidenced by the grandiose rant she shares if you refuse to give back Wobble Bell.
Surprisingly enough she seems unfazed should Shantae decide to hair-whip Wobble Bell, and is said to have gone on to be a famous traveling chef during the events of The Pirate's Curse.

While studying the culinary arts abroad, I came up with my own spin on Salted Caramel. I call it caramel le poopah, in honor of my dog, Wobble Bell.

The Ammo Baron is a buff cyclops military leader, and is one of the Barons of Sequin Land. In Risky's Revenge, he resides in a military tent in Baron Desert, from which he commands his army. His goal appears to be military conquest of Sequin Land. He wants to use Scuttle Town as a staging area for his new campaign, and to this end negotiates the purchase of the town with Mayor Scuttlebutt.
Though a bit of a sleazy jerk, he is not overtly evil. Of the three barons, he alone does not attempt to fight Shantae. Additionally, his negotiations with the Mayor suggest he will sometimes choose diplomacy over bloodshed. Once he owns Scuttle Town, he renames it Ammo Town and grants all the townsfolk citizenship, giving them the same rights as citizens of his army.
The Ammo Baron owns Battle Tower and uses it as a training compound. He stored his Magic Seal in the final chamber for any victor to claim. It's not clear if he really valued it that much and simply misplaced it - Barracuda Joe did not even recognize the artifact as important, and perhaps didn't recognize it at all.
Though the Ammo Baron claims he doesn't need another girlfriend, he later makes a pass at Shantae.

The Hypno Baron is one of the Barons of Sequin Land and is the third boss of Risky's Revenge. He dwells in his sealed fortress Hypno Tower and holds the third Magic Seal.
He appears to be a shape-shifting skeleton (possibly a Cackler) wizard who can take the form of anyone he wants, and during the boss fight takes the form of Uncle Mimic. He must have either known Uncle Mimic or have the ability to read Shantae's mind to do this. His shape-shifting is probably just hypnosis, if his name is anything to go by. Strangely enough, his character sprite has empty eye sockets with glowing red lights, while his artwork and character speech box have cartoonish eyeballs.
As Uncle Mimic he has the ability to teleport and he has three different attacks, he never physically hits Shantae but instead attacks from afar. His first attack is using his finger as a gun, which is so powerful that it will knock Shantae back. When Shantae is standing on the ground he will use his second attack, throwing a beaker on the ground which will send two shock waves to the right and to the left. His third attack is used when Shantae is standing on pillar, a barrel or is hanging on a chain; The Hypno Baron will throw a beaker that rises a high flame from the place where the beaker landed. Shantae can prevent all attacks if she attacks the Hypno Baron just before he is about to use any of his attacks. The Beaker attack can be stopped easily but the finger gun is very hard to prevent.
At first, the Hypno Baron will teleport 3 times. When he has taken 100, 120, and 140 damage, he will instead teleport 4, 5, or 7 times, respectively. After 140 damage he also gains a speed boost.
When the Hypno Baron has taken 159 damage he loses his Uncle Mimic appearance and only the skull of the Hypno Baron remains which can't hurt Shantae and only has 1 health. When Shantae defeats it, she is rewarded with the third seal.
Hypno Baron returns in Half-Genie Hero. He summons Squid Baron to license his merchandise; Shantae and Rottytops mishear and believe that Hypno Baron is summoning a giant monster to destroy the world. In the ensuing boss battle with the Squid Baron, Hypno Baron joins the fight halfway through.
You see, I summoned him here to option his merchandising rights!
