Michael is a hard-working and determined journalist. He writes hard-hitting exposes and articles for a flourishing new-age magazine company. He tends to be the quiet one, not speaking much to others and rather observing. This is magnified after the loss of his wife and he becomes the "office zombie." He often writes passages in a journal that his neighbor gave him to cope with his grief. Those journal entries will be an important key in this story-telling.
(Quietly, rumbly, talking about flowers that wouldn't bloom) They never would spring up . . . Jen . . . Jen said it had something to do with the bad soil. Not enough nutrients to get them going. (Growing softer as he remembers his wife working in the garden,)
(Angered, drunk, dealing with grief. A journal entry narration.)
April 29th, How can life be so unfair? So FUCKING unfair?
(Yell in frustration.)(Fighting through the influence of booze, trying to focus)
We'll call the cops, Jen, I can keep you safe . . .
(Begging)
Please, Jen, please don't leave me again.
Jennifer was the star editor for The Hive magazine. She was adored by everyone and always seemed to know the right thing to say. A kind-hearted and gentle soul that the town greatly missed. However, after her disappearance and legal declaration of death by authorities, Jennifer comes back, seeming urgent, secretive and perhaps even a bit scared. She is the leader in this whole puzzle game.
(Warm, Kind, Loving)
We'll plant gladiolus together. They'll be beautiful, won't they?(Urgent, trying to be quiet)
Michael, you have to stay seated, and please listen. I don't have much time.(Very urgent, trying to get Michael to focus)
I have to keep moving around or I risk being caught and I can't tell you where I'm going but I need you to follow me, honey.
(Focused)
It's important you follow me. You have to find me.
Linda is the elderly neighbor to the Clarkes. She is often nosy and involved, but ultimately is a sweet old lady who means well. I want her to sound like an old woman.
(Sweetest old lady)
I was just outside pulling some weeds and admiring the weather. It's been so lovely out hasn't it?(A bit frustrated)
Oh this darned hearing aid is acting up again.
These are generic lines for all extra characters throughout the mini-series.
A reminder, auditioning for an extra in this series will put you on my radar when I start considering screening voice-actors for future projects that are "invite-only". If you have any interest in being considered for future projects of mine go ahead and audition for the extras as well.
(Reaching out their hand for a handshake with Michael, fangirling)
Nice to meet you, Mr. Clarke. I thoroughly enjoyed your piece covering the re-opening of the museum on Chestnut.(Office room gossip, but also sounding concerned for a friend.)
Everyone grieves differently. I just hope the poor lad can pull himself together soon. Callaghan has been entertaining the idea of replacing him, or at least demoting him.(Intimidating, calculated, authoritative.)
Mr. Clarke, I see that it is time you and I have had a little talk.
(Lowering voice as Michael tries to leave, almost sinister)
I wouldn't go that way if I were you.
