"Red Strings" is an original audiobook. This project will be a long one, so if you are not willing to commit to a long project, please do not audition. The chapters will be written as the project develops, and the lines will be expected two weeks after each chapter is released.
Also, I realize the art is a little all over the place. These are NOT my images so all credit goes to the original creators. Exact character illustrations will be added later once they're finished.
This story is about an American high schooler named Asher. Asher is charming, kind, and tries to help everyone he meets. This draws people to him. There are five girls who eventually fall for him, each coming to understand love in their own way. Asher also has two obnoxious best friends who follow him around. Each character has their own purpose in the overall meaning of the show (which will be unraveled as the story continues).
I want the ending to be a surprise for not only the listeners, but the actors, so the actors will get the script of each episode as it is created in order to maintain genuine reactions. This project will likely span the next year or so, and the deadline for this project might be pushed back (depending on whether or not I find the voices I am looking for).
In order to be cast you will need:
1) A decent microphone with CLEAR audio. It is an audiobook, quality audio is key.
2) Discord. This is the main way I will contact you, and there will likely be a server for the cast.
3) A flexible schedule and a patient mindset. This project will not be finished quickly. You must be willing to work with me and the cast.
That's about it! If you aren't cast in this round of characters, don't worry! As the chapters are written, I will likely need many extras, and will post casting calls for those characters as needed! Oh, and this project will be posted on YouTube.
(As of now, no payment is being offered, but depending on the length of the project and the number of lines, some payment may later be discussed. The role of Asher being the main contender for payment due to the number of lines.)
Thanks, can't wait to work with you guys!
Asher is the protagonist, and because of this, he
needs to have a protagonist style voice. Soothing and pleasant to listen to yet
enchanting and ear-catching. Something very distinct from the other boys at the
school. Asher is the good boy in school. Nice, genuine, and charming. His
character often hangs around those who are bad influences. Asher is usually the
one to stop his friends from bullying, partying, or just being idiots in
general. Asher is very mature and gentle for his age, and is often driven by
the sole idea that each person is more than they seem. Asher seeks love,
passion, and happiness above all other worldly things. Asher is the noble,
princely protagonist that every show needs, but his friend’s influence over him
might cause his character to falter. Asher is a morally just character. He
knows what he believes is right, and I need to hear that conviction in his tone
when he is speaking. His voice has no set range. Mid to low is preferred, but
if you want to shoot for a higher-pitched male character, I will judge your
audition on the same scale. With Asher, I’m not so much looking for a pitch as
much as I am looking for the emotion. Asher is very emotional, and has had a
rough past. It is part of the reason so many people are drawn to him. I need to
hear the annoyance, conviction, and gentility in his voice above all else.
Woah, are you okay? I saw what happened back there.

Come on, guys, knock it off. She’s…really cool. |
You can think what you want of me, but I am anything

Almira is a rich girl. Captain of the cheerleading
team, and not afraid to flaunt it. She seems overly confident and smiley (which
can often seem fake), and makes sexual jokes constantly. She is well-liked
throughout the school, but often insults and bullies people when no one is
looking (a product of her hidden insecurity). Her voice is mid to high ranged
and slightly nasally.
(Amused) Yeah, right, loser! Ha! You’re pathetic, and
|
(Annoyed) Ugh, whatever. Get out of my way. |
(Stuttering) I…uh…I was just messin’ around, Asher!

Rosalind is the quiet type. She is very introverted,
and spends more time reading about boys than she does interacting with them.
She doesn’t have any friends at the school since she just transferred from
England, but she often likes to listen in to other people’s conversations while
pretending to read. I would like her to have an English accent and a mid-ranged
voice would be preferable. Since she doesn’t talk to people often, her voice
should be hushed and should always have an air of anxiety about it. Almost as
if she were surprised and nervous about the fact that she is speaking to real
person and not a character in her book.
I-uh-*clears throat* I’m sorry… |
I just…I don’t know. I don’t really like…myself. I use

Belle is the oldest of the group but you would not
know it. She is extremely bubbly and happy all the time. Many people see her as
naïve and oblivious because of how happy and carefree she is, but she is
actually very observant and wise. She gives seemingly pointless advice when
asked which always has an in-depth meaning. She is one of the most dynamic
characters in the show, and I need to hear that development in her voice. Her
range is high, and like I said, very ditsy and oblivious. However, in the later
lines when she is confessing or giving advice, her voice needs to maintain pitch
while also sounding mature and intellectual.
His name is Eli (Ee-lie). My dad bought him for me!

Can I have some?! Chocolate is my favorite… |
Ebony is your basic angsty tsundere. She is closed off
and dark and brash, but holds a different side to her. Ebony loves music. She
writes in her free time and can often be found in the music room while the
others are at lunch, playing piano or violin (her two favorites). Ebony loves
to create, not only music, but poetry and paintings. Her room is scattered with
her artwork, and although her grades slack because of it, she doesn’t mind.
There is more to Ebony than she lets on in the first few chapters, and once she
opens up to Asher, her true passions and emotions break free. Her voice is mid
to low ranged, and her regular speaking needs to be slightly annoyed and gruff.
When she is excitedly speaking about something she loves, her pitch and speed
need to increase. I really need to hear that excitement considering it is the
first time she would be talking about her life’s passion with someone.
Gross. Please don’t talk to me. |
They’re not for music, they’re for drowning out the sounds

Y-You play? I mean, not like I’m impressed…it’s basic.

Cassidy doesn’t care for much. Not in a care free way,
but in a way where she literally does not care about anything but herself and
the few friends she manages to keep. Cassidy is very passive, and often shrugs
off conflict (usually coming from Almira). She is very intelligent, but does
voice it unless asked. Cass just wants to get through high school without
dealing with the drama other people bring. She is not interested in romance,
and has turned down many offers from boys who have found her interesting.
Cassidy is not afraid to be blunt and straight-forward, and will tell you to
your face that she does not care about you. Cassidy (initially) sees everyone
in high school as temporary. Her voice is mid to low ranged and definitely
needs to have a know-it-all yet almost robotic and mono-toned. She doesn’t care
what anyone has to say since she knows best and everyone else is irrelevant.
Does it matter? No. So, get over yourself. |
Eh, I don’t care. Do what you want. I mean, honestly,

I was never involved in drama, and I tried to ignore

Jacee is Asher’s best friend. When Asher quit
football, Jacee did too. Asher was Jacee’s first friend at his new school, and
Jacee hasn’t let go of him since then. Jacee transferred from Ireland five
years ago, and has only ever felt comfortable when Asher was around. Jacee is
loud, overly vocal, and extremely witty. However, Jacee uses his humor to mask
his deeply imbedded insecurities and self-hatred. Jacee can’t bring himself to
look in the mirror anymore (even though he is of decent weight), and hardly
ever smiles unconsciously. Jacee forces happiness from himself in order to
breed more happiness in others. Happiness he could never find himself. Because
of his constant need to hide his emotions and make others smile, Jacee often
does stupid and careless things, relying on Asher to keep him grounded. Jacee
feeds off the attention and laughter he receives, constantly trying to maintain
that attention by performing outlandish acts. Asher is the only one who knows
of Jacee’s hidden reasoning and the past the Jacee hides from the world. Jacee’s
voice needs to be immature. Not necessarily high pitched, but mid-ranged would
be best. Also, he is VERY defensive when it comes to the pronunciation of his
name. That line needs to be very angry. (A good vocal reference would be Hikaru from Ouran).
Look at that outfit. *Laughs* Doesn’t she just scream
|
I, uh, no! I mean, look at that hair. The 50’s called,
|
It’s not JAY-cee it’s JACE-(e)! The last 'e' is silent. Get it right, you
|
Kaen is the basic jock type. He hangs around Jacee and
Asher because they get more girls than the football team. Once Asher and Jacee
quit, Kaen became quarterback. He is very oblivious and crude and thinks with
the wrong head (if you know what I mean). Kaen and Jacee often make jokes
together, commenting on people as they pass. Kaen’s sexually charged behavior
keeps most girls away from him, but again, Asher believes there is something
more to him than what he advertises. Kaen is actually a sweetheart, more so
than Asher, but does not let it show out of fear of rejection from his father.
Like Jacee, he hides his emotions and true self behind the man he thinks the
world expects him to be. Asher senses this, and tries to help Kaen accept
emotionally, rather than sexually, driven relationships. The three of them
often hang out together before and after school. Kaen is a supporting character
and he does not speak very often, but when he does it does not go unnoticed. If
you are auditioning for this character, be prepared to say some pretty weird
and lewd things. His voice should be fairly deep, but realistic for a high
school senior.
Mmm, what a hottie. Who is that? |
I’d let her eat my dog… |
Oh, come on, man. It’s not like I like her or
