The Tale of Sarturus (Paid)

Project Overview

Hey there, Casting Call Club!

I'm here today in search of a talented voice actor or actress to narrate my latest video project.

Background Info

My last project was an audio-drama based on a fantasy short story. It was a passion project of mine and as the story included many characters experiencing the highest and lowest points of their life's, it required actors able to convincingly portray a wide range of emotions. While the scope of the project didn't meet my initial expectations I'm still very happy with how it turned out.

About the project

I am producing a video that, while a smaller undertaking than my last project, is still very dear to me. The video will feature music, graphics and a narrator detailing the lore of the same universe that was featured in my last project. 'Sarturus', the name of the world, is also the name used to denote the collection of stories that make up the project. To best understand the tone that I require from the narrator, it is important to note that while many heroic deeds occur in the land of Ulthalor, the stories are exceedingly melancholic.  I would highly recommend a viewing of my last project in order to get a feel for the world.

Roughly 3,000 words. There is no strict deadline.

I will provide an audio clip of all the nouns that feature in the script, should you get the part, and also give as much direction as needed.

I'm looking for someone that

  • Is exceptional at communicating gravitas in their narration. (the narrator is describing incredibly important events, as if read from an ancient tome.)

  • Demands quality from themselves and provides quality (solid performances with audio that is clear and loud)

  • Is fairly comfortable with fantasy names and pronouncing them (It's important to me that the nouns that you will narrate sound genuine and integrated with everything else)

  • Is responsive to direction & cares about small details (Many parts of the narration may be timed to music and so it is important you are able to amend the pacing of your narration if needed)

  • (as a bonus) resonates with my last project.

A soft English accent is preferred but a neutral or subtle accent is acceptable. If Male: A deep resonance that is able to convey power is highly favorable.

It's a bit of a cliche but the introduction to The Lord of the Rings is a fair enough example of the tone and pacing that I'm looking for.

If you require additional information feel free to message me. I look forward to hearing your audition.

Thanks.

Hello again. Thanks to everyone that auditioned for the role of the narrator. I wish everyone the best of luck in their future projects and merry christmas.
  • Short list & Reading of lines

Hey everyone. I just wanted to post an update saying that I appreciate everyone that has auditioned so far and I will hopefully be able to choose a short list by Monday 17th, or perhaps earlier. While I'm here I thought I might as well include something that I added to the description of the narrator: The lines were intended to be read verbatim but I noticed that a few people have changed the wording of the lines or have missed words out. I'm unsure if this is just an oversight or if there's a specific reason for it. If you did this and would like to message me with an explanation that'd be much appreciated. :) Thanks again, everyone. - Ryan

(Man or Woman telling the history of Ulthalor. Read as if recounting tales from an ancient tome)

The lines should be read verbatim. (but I'm prone to making grammatical errors, so if you see something that looks totally wrong then feel free to correct it! Nouns and words in apostrophes are all as they should be. Thanks!)

Pronunciation guide:

Altazan: Alta-zan

Ulthandros: Ool-than-dros

Lokoss: Law-cos (as in 'cost')

Shalanon: Shall-ah-non

Anonur: Anon-oor

Silicca: Seal-ih-ca (as in 'can')

Aerion: Air-ee-on

Balteros: Bal-teros (os, as in coast)

(Herb that has been poisoned) Solthari: Sol-thar-ee

  • In his depravity he began to treat with a number of the enemy, forming closest ties with the nearby city of Altazan. Over time he coerced much of his military to follow him, promising power, and discontent grew in Ulthandros.

  • Lokoss was the son of Shalanon, King of Anonur. When he and his brother Silicca went north to find the cause of their father’s illness they witnessed great and terrible things.

  • The ploy of the slaves was fruitful, but Aerion knew not that Balteros abstained from the Solthari and when he saw the betrayer ride in fury with the 'Black House' he laid down his scythe and his heart was stricken.
