"The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear."

- Buddy the Elf, "Elf"

When our normal way of life gets shaken up, we can find ourselves longing for a more carefree time. In the wake of the social distancing measures taken internationally and within our own neighborhoods, I believe that evoking a sense of community however we can (safely) is one of the most important things we can do at this time. It's hard to think of a time of year that brings more people together than the holiday season. One of my favorite parts of the holidays is singing classic Christmas songs with friends and family. You've all heard of Christmas In July, so why not have a Christmas in Quarantine?

This is an ongoing project and quite episodic in nature, so it  will not be a problem at all if you come in after the first carol, or have to miss the third carol, etc - your participation will always be welcome.

How it works:

1. You'd like to carol with us! Singers and non-singers alike are welcome.

2. You send in an "audition" singing a part from one of your favorite Christmas songs to show your interest. I'd also like you to write a little about what history you have singing (if any), and what your favorite Christmas songs are. If you aren't comfortable posting a public audition of yourself singing alone, then you can always submit something to me on Discord @Golly9804.
Everyone gets in!

3. I send you an invite to the Discord group. Here we can get to know each other, chill out (make friends?), and discuss the project.

4. I send out a backing track with guide vocals to a song. The goal is unison singing, so it'd be better to sing along with a human example so we're on the roughly the same page.

5. You send a recording of you singing along (use headphones so the sample doesn't pick up). There's approximately a 2 week deadline to submit after the guide track is provided.

6. I mix us all singing together and put out a video.

I'm looking forward to meeting you all and hearing your wonderful voices!

Missed Invite?

I generally set up Discord invites that expire in 24 hours. I've noticed that the number of members doesn't equal the number of auditions. If you've missed the window, please let me know and I'll re-invite you however many times necessary to get you in. :)

Latest Updates

  • Missed Invites?

I generally set up Discord invites that expire in 24 hours (I'm a little paranoid about the infinite ones being exploited). I've noticed that the number of members doesn't equal the number of auditions. If you've missed the window, please let me know and I'll re-invite you however many times necessary to get you in. :)
  • Baby It's Cold Outside Extension

I'd like to have a bit more time to work with the mixing side of things and am extending the deadline for Baby It's Cold Outside to NEXT Friday, June 12th. So if you're thinking of joining up and would specifically like to sing this song, you now have more time.
  • Multilanguage Silent Night complete. Next Song announced.

This weekend, we wrapped up on our multilanguage version of Silent Night featuring German, French, Spanish and English verses. This was a larger effort than last time, splitting the group into trios and quartets, and even going so far as having language demonstrations from some of our members with experience and training! I'm so grateful for the enthusiastic participation thus far and am looking forward to seeing what else we can achieve during this time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cD1suKPArd4 Our next song will be Baby It's Cold Outside, this time dividing into sopranos/altos vs tenors/basses. As always, new members are always welcome. The more the merrier!
  • Jingle Bells Complete

Thank you so much to all involved with Jingle Bells! You can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCWLb52aEhc
  • Next Up: Silent Night

With the deadline for Jingle Bells fast approaching (upload coming Saturday), it's safe to say that our next carol will be a multi-language rendition of Silent Night, deadline poised for early-mid-May. It's fine if you don't have experience with every language we're using (I don't!)- guides will be provided. In the future, if there is enough interest, I'm willing to retroactively add newer members into the mix of past carols they may have wanted to do, but missed.

Not so into the singing thing, but still want to get involved? Well, we'd always appreciate artwork! Similar to singing roles, this is also episodic and more of a pool for anyone who may be interested in participating in videos here and there. If you'd like this to be you, then voice interest/post previous works below.
