Nimo's Butterflies

Nimo's Butterflies

Project Overview

"My name is Nimo. This might be hard to believe but... I have a superpower. You how some people say that they can tell your future? Well, ever since I can remember I've been able to tell the earth's future. And from what I've seen, it may be up to me to save it. I keep tossing and turning. Ever since we learned about the environment in school this year, I've been getting more worried about my visions. Smoke, abandoned buildings, deead trees, scary weather... I used mto think these were just creepy pictures my brain came up with when I was bored. But now I think they might really be visions of the future. Thinking that makes it hard to sleep. I don't think I can ignore my visions anymore, even though no one believes me about them. What if the future is crying out for me?"

Nimo's Butterfly is a demo being made for the Games for Change competition, in an effort to bring about more awareness of climate change. What better way to teach important lessons than through fun and interesting games?

The game will be a short visual novel, exploring how certain decisions impact the future. Since Nimo can see the future of her location, the player will know what environmental impact their decisions have made.

The game will be in the style of Phoenix Wright and Danganropa. Only a select few lines will be voice acted, but the characters will make exclamations out loud during non-voiced conversations. Ex: "What?" "No..." "Hi!"

Since this is a demo, we won't need many voiced lines. The number of lines required is below each character. We will need all voiced lines within a week of the audition closing. Microphone quality will be very important for our selection.

Snooty, smug, voice is a little deeper for a woman, usually apathetic, can be passionate. Carries around a small, unfriendly dog named Pinky. Has a dislike for children, but eventually warms to Nimo's persistence.

Has 8 lines in total.

  • I agree with my sweet little Pinky. You children these days have it far too easy. Whatever could you need a summer vacation for?

  • Well, I’m sure I don’t have any time to talk with anyone that Pinky doesn’t trust. The little dear is an excellent judge of character, and he doesn’t… like… you!

  • And probably for good reason too! Shouldn’t you be in school? *scoff* You little urchin truant!

Has 11 lines in total.

  • Oh hello, Nimo! Isn’t it a wonderfully beautiful, brilliantly sunny, perfectly windy day? I bet you’ll be out gardening with your parents all afternoon, won’t you?

  • I, myself, love gardening. There’s nothing I like more than being out in the sunshine, listening to the insects, working with my hands, watering the plants…

  • And in my shoes, in my eyes, between my teeth… I also like to pet the plants!

Deep man’s voice, gravelly, slow, calm, academic, factual. Narrates during the opening cinematic, and the multiple endings.

Has 7 lines in total.

  • Our world is changing. It’s becoming hotter, drier, stormier.

  • Much of it is dying. Its human caretakers are failing.

  • The biggest problem is... this is everyone's fault. So no one person can make a difference.

  • YEEAHHHHHH!
