McNeese Theatre Round Up - Auditions!

Project Overview

The annual McNeese State University Theatre Roundup will be held at 5:30 p.m.  Thursday, Aug. 24, in the Tritico Theatre. The Lake Area community is invited to meet the theatre program faculty, production directors and students and receive information about the season’s productions, auditions and technical work.

Directors will give an overview of the upcoming theatre season and explain the audition procedure. Auditions are open to all McNeese students, faculty and staff and area residents.

Fall auditions will be held from 4:00p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, in the Tritico Theatre. A signup sheet and audition packet will be available in the lobby of the Tritico Theatre beginning on Wednesday, August 16th.

McNeese Theatre’s 78th season will open with The Crucible by Arthur Miller.   Brook Hanemann will direct this American Theatre classic.  The play, written in 1953, “holds a mirror up to nature” and shows how Fear destroys Truth.  Based on historical people and real events, The Crucible illuminates how fear and hysteria can spawn the destructive power of socially sanctioned violence.  Written as a response to Senator Joe McCarthy’s anti-communist “witch hunts” of the 1950’s, Miller provides a searing portrait of a community that allows rumors and hysteria to govern its moral compass.

The spring theatre production kicks-off our new mission to bring understanding to something that is misunderstood by busting the myths about one of the most misunderstood periods of life.  THE TEENAGE PROJECT: MYTHBUSTING ADOLESCENCE will show pre-teens, teens and adults how to navigate through the adolescent years. This production is being created by community members of Southwest Louisiana.  A script is being written as part of the process and McNeese faculty, students and community members are invited to participate.

Season subscription prices TBA. All season subscriptions support McNeese theatre scholarships. For more information, call 337-475-5040.
