Project Overview
A fanfiction for Man of Steel turned into a recording!
Summary: Karly Mathis went to school with Clark Kent, and she saw him all the time. But she never once spoke to him.
She finds herself constantly thinking about him, even after they go their separate ways.
Years later, Karly is now working with Dr. Hamilton at DARPA. When they are sent to the Arctic, she finds her life in danger until she is saved...by none other than Clark Kent!
Having endless questions about the boy she thought she knew, she returns to her hometown and meets with him to discuss who he really is. Karly promises him that she will protect his secret.
This proves to be difficult when Zod sends his message to Earth, and the FBI takes Karly in under the belief she knows something she isn't telling.
Clark surrenders himself and frees her. Together, they go to face Zod and perhaps find love while they're at it.

It’s alright, it’s alright, it’s alright! It’s alright! (K: Clark?!) You know who I am? (K: We went to school together. What are you doing here?) (referring to her jacket) May I? You’re hemorrhaging internally. And if I don’t cauterize this bleed… (K: What?) I can do things that other people can’t. (K: What are you talking about?) You have to swear you won’t tell anyone. (K: Won’t tell anyone what?) (sighs) Hold my hand. This is really gonna hurt.
You can open your eyes now. Are you alright?
Karly... (K: Why me?) Because you saw past what everyone else saw.
SEKOWSKY: NASA’s EOS satellites pinged the anomaly first. The ice shelf completely messes up the echo surroundings. But there’s something there.
DAD: Karly, how's the job been going?
PILOT: Avionics are going haywire! The gravity field is pulling our missiles down. We gotta get closer!
RECASTING

My name is Jor-El. I am Kal’s father.
I designed this ship. I can modify its atmospheric composition to human compatibility. We can stop them. We can send them back to the Phantom Zone. I can teach you. And in turn, you teach Kal. Will you help me?
Safe travels, Miss Mathis. It’s highly unlikely we’ll be seeing each other again. Remember, the phantom drives are essential in stopping them. (a beat) Move your head to the left.

Miss Mathis, you wanna tell me what you were doing out there without supervision?
You want to explain to me what really happened up at the Arctic? (K: I already told you, I don’t remember.) Now, see, I find that a little hard to believe. (K: Believe it or not. That’s your choice.) Don’t test me, Miss Mathis. I think you know more than what you’re letting on. What do you know about this guy? (K: Nothing that will be of any use to you.) If I find out you’re lying to me, we can lock you away in prison for a long, long time. Is that really what you want? All your years working your way up at DARPA will go to waste in a matter of hours. You’ll be replaced as Dr. Hamilton’s research technician, and it will take you even longer to be able to get that position back if you can at all.

Miss Lane. (L: Oh. It’s only you.) Only me? You think that just because I’m a research technician, I’m not as good as you? (L: I didn’t say that.) No, but I think we both know that’s what you meant. (sighs) Look, all personal feelings aside, people aren’t supposed to be here without someone back from base.
(about a Kryptonian gun) I have no idea how to use this. (J: Easy. Aim and pull the trigger. That’s all you need to know. To your right. Fire.) I don’t think I can do this...
No! No, please! Don’t hurt me! (she looks at him) Clark?! (C: You know who I am?) We went to school together. What are you doing here? (a surge of pain runs through her) (C: May I? You’re hemorrhaging internally. And if I don’t cauterize this bleed…) (in pain) What? (C: I can do things that other people can’t.) What are you talking about? (C: You have to swear you won’t tell anyone.) Won’t tell anyone what? (C: Hold my hand. This is really gonna hurt.) Wait. Wait, what are you— (she starts screaming as he burns her)
She saw him. She saw him every single day. Always from a distance, never speaking to him, but she saw him. She didn’t know if he saw her, but she always saw him. He was quiet most of the time, but he seemed to be happy. Maybe that was why she never spoke to him.
He looked over at Karly and saw that she was unconscious. Numbly, he slowly walked to her and knelt down beside her. Thankfully, she was still alive. He didn’t know what he would do if Zod had succeeded in killing her. He slid one arm under her legs and the other under her back and gently lifted her up, then walked out of the train station.
Ever so slowly, he put his hand on her neck and brought her lips on his. Karly’s heart sky-rocketed to a million beats per second. The two of them stood in the middle of the yard sharing a beautiful soft kiss. The kiss was so much better than anything she had ever envisioned. Just like she always wanted, she knew Clark liked her for who she was.

Comets don’t make course corrections, general. Wanted you to see this before some amateur with a telescope creates a worldwide panic. The ship appears to have inserted itself into a lunar synchronous orbit, though I have no idea why.
Karly! We’ve got a situation. Colonel Hardy believes you know where this guy is after the incident in the Arctic. He’s coming for you. Do you know anything about whoever this Zod person is talking about? Karly, this is serious! The whole world is being threatened right now! Do you know anything at all about him?
Before we do all this, I just wanted to tell you that I have never been prouder of one of my assistants. You have been a delight to work with and if we live through this, I’m going to promote you to my partner. You’ve earned it, especially because of the courage and tenacity you’ve shown over the course of the last few days. And don’t think I haven’t seen how you’ve been interacting with this guy. If we live through this, I say you go for it.
Okay, I know you’re lying. What really happened after I left? You don’t just end up miles away from that thing without knowing something else. (K: I don’t know, Lois.) Fine, don’t tell me. But I’ll get to the truth eventually. Someone up there rescued you, I know it. I don’t know why you’re keeping it a secret, but I’ll find out.
(over chaos) Miss Mathis! What’s all this about you knowing something about the alien they’re looking for? Did you meet him at the Arctic in that craft? What happened to you up there?

See him? That’s Dr. Emil Hamilton. Word on the street is he’s looking for a new assistant to become a research technician with him. Everyone wants the position. This guy is the real deal.
(after Karly gets the job) That’s great! I told you that you were a shoe-in! Congratulations!

My name is General Zod. I come from a world far from yours. I have journeyed across an ocean of stars to reach you. For some time, your world has sheltered one of my citizens. I request that you return this individual to my custody. For reasons unknown, he has chosen to keep his existence a secret from you. He will have made efforts to blend in. He will look like you. But he is not one of you. To those of you who may know of his current location, the fate of your planet rests in your hands. To Kal-El, I say this: Surrender within 24 hours or watch this world suffer the consequences.
