Loose Canon

Project Overview

When a malevolent djinni escapes from a corrupted legend, obsessed comic book fan Krissy is granted her wildest wish: to become a superhero. But with the very fabric of reality beginning to unravel as story worlds collide, superpowers may not be enough to save the day–or even herself.

After all, wishes don’t come without price.

I'm launching an original web serial novel in October! As part of the
promotion for the launch, I would like to do a full-cast audio version
of the first two episodes. I'm looking to hire a talented voice artist to play my deuteragonist.  This is a paid gig. I'm new to the VO-hiring game and rates seem to vary wildly, so I will leave it to you to tell me your rates. Feel free to message me with any questions!

The character is a malevolent djinni with a reputation for tricking his masters into making disastrous wishes. I imagine him having a medium-low voice with bit of a husky, whsipery quality. He tends to choose his words carefully, so he sounds contemplative, guarded, and he frequently pauses or lets his words trail/linger.

  • Said in a calm, self-congratulating way:  “Victory, beauty, power—new garments,
even—all are wishes I have granted before...But never in
    a combination quite like this.”

  • Said with impatience: “I cannot harm my mistress. My contract restrains me. If you want her dead, you’re on your own.”

  • Said at first with a courteous manner, but the second part (after the "...") should sound cross: “You’ll have to forgive my
manners. I’ve been living alone in a dark pit for…gods only know how long.”

Toymaker is a mysterious entity that prompts and provokes the protagonists from behind the scenes. She has a high, gentle, lilting voice that can sound cloying at times (like a mother talking to a very small child) and eerie at others. The Toymaker is first and foremost a storyteller and is known only by her voice for some time, so she must have a voice that is both distinct (listeners would recognize her right away) and compelling (a cadence that keeps the listener's interest, especially when the Toymaker is relaying a legend or an ominous allegory).

  • Said in a storyteller's voice, relaying a grim fairytale: "Long ago, there lived an evil djinni, bound under a fell contract. To whomever held his cursed lamp, the djinni would grant three wishes. Those wishes, however, did not come without price."

  • Said in a sweetly mocking voice: "Not so unlike yourself, Thrall."

  • Record some laughter: a short giggle, and a longer peal of tinkling laughter. Both laughs should sound dainty and sweet, but also a bit spooky.
