Hello everyone,
I'm a statistician (a kind of mathematician if you prefer) from Belgium, nearing the completion of my thesis (the subject of which being - ah, no one cares :-D)
As part of my job as a researcher, I have to teach statistics at a university level. I've been doing that for more than 5 years now. And this year, I've decided to start something a bit crazy during my free time: to explain advanced and less advanced statistics to... my cat, Albert. With the help of two great artists, the YouTube channel "La statistique expliquée à mon chat", which is French for something like "Statistics explained to my cat", was founded. This channel has currently only three videos of 5 minutes, already 2,000 subscribers and a strong fan base, and is about to actually get a first video funded by my university! The future of the project looks good :-) All current three videos are in French with my very own voice, but English subtitles are available on each of them. Go check it out now: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWty1tzwZW_ZNSp5GVGteaA
Why am I here? I'm sure you already figured that out. We want to expand towards the English speaking world. We need an amateur English speaking voice actor to join our team (me, writing scripts and being the voice actor on the French side ; Laura, drawing the videos and taking care of sound design ; and Gwenaël, our composer). Note that while the project is currently not funded, I'm working hard to get funds and I'm sure we will get there at some point. In the meantime, the project has been great for the three of us, as we each have been contacted for freelance work thanks to this project already :-)
What we are looking for: A native English speaking person, able to properly correct scripts translated from French by a non native English speaker (that's me), to dub our videos in English based on these scripts, and also willing to help out in promoting the YouTube channel with a proper written English. We have no special request regarding accent. We just don't know what we prefer. We expect the voice actor to have a general interest in science and social media, given the nature of the project. Regarding age, someone in the range 25 - 45 sounds about right. Regarding sex: male, to match the French side of this project.
What is the deadline: August, 6 (one month from now). If we don't get much applicants or none of them suit us, we will cross finger and extend the deadline.
How can you submit: Pick any of the three videos that are currently online and try to dub it - at least part of it - the best you can. Send us your work by mail as a mp3 file (as well as the name of the video you decided to dub) and a (not too long) explanation of who you are and where you live.
Mail: amisdalbert at gmail.com
We will send you back an email to confirm we've received an archived your submission.
Edit: this website offers the possibility of you submitting an audition directly here. Please do it as well. Send us an email with your dub attempt and submit it here, too.
Regardless of how this attempt to find an amateur voice actor works out, I already thank you for reading all I just wrote. Laura, Gwenaël and I are very excited to add a new member to our - so far - successful team :-)
Cheers from Belgium,
Nathan.
