Kyra's Tale Recast Book 1: Water (Again)

Kyra's Tale Recast Book 1: Water (Again)

Project Overview

I am still searching for voice actors who'd like to participate in an Avatar the Last Airbender fanfiction audio book that I'm working on with an audio engineer and an artist. There are roles that still need to be filled and some I'd like to recast. For this project, I need people to be RELIABLE because I can't keep recasting parts. You also need to be familiar with the show, how to pronounce the character names, and the lore.

Summary:

This is a fanfiction basically answers the question "what would the series be like if Sokka and Katara had a younger sister." It revolves around the series and strays away from it as well. The purpose of this fanfiction is to help me develop my writing skills and help me learn how to develop characters. There are so many incredibly talented people on this site and I want to work with all of you.

Requirements for Auditioning:

a) please state your email address and your experience with the show/why you want to audition

b) A good quality mic

c) Understanding the plot, characters + arc on the show.

I can't wait to hear all of your auditions! Thank you for auditioning!

Kyra is the adventurous younger sister of Sokka and Katara. She is twelve years old and yearns to see the world outside of her small village, but is somewhat afraid the dangers that are out there. However, when she and her siblings discover the Avatar, she is ready to do whatever it takes to help save the world.

Note: You MUST sound like a 12 year old. It just didn't feel right when she sounds like a marture teenager). Be sure to listen to Katara's narration to understand how to say this, almost as if you are narrating the Introduction of the show. You also HAVE to be reliable on deadlines and send them in on time.

  • The Southern Water Tribe was once a beautiful nation filled with culture, prosperity, and joy. I was proud to come from a tribe of people with such a history. Of course, that was history. I didn't remember anything other than war and struggle. My older brother would bring out the realist side of me, reminding me that we can't get out of the war. Meanwhile, my older sister Katara, would tell me that there was a still hope. Hope that the Avatar-the master of all four elements-would return and save the world.

I didn't know who or what to believe. All I knew was that the Fire Nation started this war. That was why I hated them. I would spit on the ground whenever someone would mention Fire Lord Ozai and Fire Lord Sozin. We were all equal, and one nation couldn't overpower the other. That was what my Father told me.

The Fire Nation attacked our tribe when I was a little girl. The only thing I remembered was black soot falling from the sky-a sign that danger was coming. Everyone knew who they were coming for: my sister. She was the last known Waterbender of our tribe, or so they believed. Little did they know that I would  possess the ability to control water. Gran Gran told me that all the Waterbenders were captured by the Fire Nation. It ended in a bloody battle, and she said she couldn't be more hopeful when she discovered my talents.

That was when that spark of hope reignited in my heart.  I still clung to it, even though I believed it was very unlikely that we could ever defeat the Fire Nation. We couldn't change history and save the Air Nomads, but we could make history. When Sokka, Katara, and I discovered the boy in the iceberg, I knew things were about to change.

Our lives were intertwined with his.

  • The cold South Pole wind rushed through my hair, as my older siblings Sokka, Katara, and I canoed across the ocean that was glazed with breaking ice. We were hoping to catch tonight's dinner, and if that didn't work out-well, then we had to wait until next season-whenever that would be. It was hard to find fish because of the freezing temperatures. They usually came around when the sun's rays were able to touch the rippling water.

I spread my arms and legs against the little corner of my canoe that I shared. Being the youngest of twelve years old in a family like mine helped me gain the advantage of not doing much. Yes; as a girl I did help around the hut, but I yearned the adventure that hunting brought. So for most of the time I was in charge of the younger children until my brother trained them to be "warriors". Sokka was officially the oldest male in our village ever since the raid, so that left even more pressure on his hands.

  • "How about you actually catch a fish, Mr. Fish Catching Master?" I said, sarcastically.

Katara is the fourteen year old sister of Sokka and Kyra, and in this case, the middle child of the family. She was very close to her mother, and the Fire Nation's attack caused her to grow up and become more mature than her siblings. I'm pretty sure that you can recall how she was from the show 😊

  • "You are the most sexist, immature, nut brained... Ugh! I'm embarrassed to be related to you! And I bet Kyra is too! Ever since Mom died I've been doing all the work around camp while you've been off playing soldier!"

"You took Kyra's childhood away from her!" she continued. "She was the only one who had the chance to run around outside, but instead she was stuck in our igloo helping me! She's the only one who has enough consideration to help me out!"

"We even had to wash your clothes! Have you smelled your dirty socks? Well let me tell you... Not pleasant!"

"She's not wrong, Sokka," I backed her up, pinching my nose with my fingers, "they stink."

    "Katara!" he repeated.

"No, that's it! I'm done helping you! Come on, Kyra," Katara paused to grab my hand, "from now on, you're on your own!"

(If I separated her lines it means that I just erased some of Kyra's and Sokka's lines. Please read the monologue as you heard it from the show. Don't read the lines that obviously belong to Kyra or Sokka, and please pronounce Kyra's name as Keera.

  • We have to go after that ship, Sokka. Aang saved our tribe, now we have to save him.

  • Why can't you realize that he's on our side? If we don't help him, no one will. I know you don't like Aang, but we owe him and...

Aang

Aang is the titular character of the Avatar The Last Airbender TV show. He's the only survivor of the Airbender genocide, and he goes through quite a shock when he visits his home, the Southern Air Temple. Aang is a fun loving, goofy kid who holds immense power as the Avatar. However, he has to learn to master it before he can save the world.

Note: Not only do you need to be reliable, but you also need to SOUND like a twelve year old boy, and at least be near his age. It's hard for me when I hear a teen with a mature voice playing this role. You also definitely need to understand the main plot and know how to pronounce the character names for this part. I can't recast this role.

  • "I need to ask you something," the boy mumbled

    "What?" Katara asked.

    "Please, come closer," he persisted.

    "What is it?"

The next response was kind of a shock: "Will you go penguin sledding with me?" His eyes lit up and he said all this way too fast.

(only read the lines that are in the quotations and the ones  that obviously state that these are Aang's lines).

  • "Wow. I haven't cleaned my room in a hundred years! Not looking forward to that."

  • All right, but before I learn Waterbending, we have some serious business to attend to.

Zuko

The banished Prince of the Fire Nation, Zuko's only hope of returning home is the Avatar, and whether or not he captures him. He spends the majority of season 1 trying to track Aang down. He yearns for his father's respect, and it seems so out of reach. Zuko travels with his Uncle Iroh, who's the only true family he has.

Note: Zuko has this raspiness to his voice. Try to imitate how Dante Basco voices him in the show.

  • ""Where are you hiding him?" (demanding)

"He'd be about this age? Master of all four elements?"

"The Avatar?" he mocked me. "Of course it's the Avatar! Who else can bend all four elements?"

(don't read the "he mocked me" part.

    "I know you're hiding him."

  • (surprised) "You're the Airbender? You're the Avatar?"

"I've spent years preparing this encounter. Training, meditating," Ponytail said, menacingly. "You're just a child!"

  • "It means that my search has finally come to an end."

Momo and Appa are both the last of their kind. Appa is Aang's flying bison and Team Avatar's most reliable mode of transportation. Momo is the lemur that the Gaang finds at the Southern Air Temple.

  • (try to mock some of the creature's voices in the show)

  • (do some groans, growls, screeches)
