Project Overview
KATEKYOUSHI HITMAN REBORN! MANGA DUB
Introduction:
Hello CCC, I'm Chris AKA DarkHasayo. I've been wanting to do this project for a long time as Katekyoushi Hitman REBORN! is my all time favorite manga. However, while well known in Japan it doesn't seem to have much presence here in the west. Not many seem to know or at least have heard of it before. It had an anime that never got dubbed and while I'd like to dub it, it doesn't hold up due to animation and censorship and also ends before the last two arcs of the manga. For a while I've wanted KHR! to get more love, whether it be through a anime reboot similar to HunterxHunter or a continuation/sequel of the manga. Hopes were high when the author, Amano Akira's, most recent series elDLIVE was promoted with a video that included new animation for KHR! Unfortunately, since then there's been no more news about it. TL:DR I want give my favorite series the love I feel it deserves by producing an English dub of the manga!
KHR! Synopsis:
The overall plot of the series centers around the primary protagonist, a teenage boy named Tsunayoshi Sawada, constantly known for being a loser meets an infant hitman known as Reborn, who acts as his home tutor in order to train him to become the Tenth Boss of a Mafia Famiglia known as Vongola Famiglia.
Project:
While I want to do this dub, I have little experience in doing a project of this scope and have no idea if my passion will be enough to maintain this long term. So, I've decided to do a test to see if I'll truly want to continue this dub. As such I've chosen a handful of pages of the manga to dub as a trial run. Final Notes:As this is a test, if you are cast here you'll be on the short list for the official project if/when I choose to move forward with the manga dub. However, you will have to audition again when that time comes. As I said this is my passion project and I want it to be the best it can be which means ensuring I get the best voices for the best version of this dub. I hope this doesn't discourage anyone from auditioning at this time but I wanted to be transparent about that. Reborn is sent by the current head of the Vongola Family to Japan to train and prepare Sawada Tsunayoshi to become the Family’s tenth boss. Despite his infant appearance he is highly respected within the mafia world and a trusted friend and ally of the Vongola and is regarded as the world’s strongest hitman. His demeanor is rather nonchalant and eccentric, saying some of the most ridiculous things with all seriousness
Reborn speaks very matter-of-factly and while appearing to be a baby talks from experience.
(Reborn’s catchphrase greeting) “Ciaossu~”
(In response to Tsuna accusing him of lying} "Wrong. I'm telling you to fight. "
(Explaining Gokudera's fighting style) "It's said that Gokudera Hayato is a human explosive device that conceals dynamite all over his body. His nickname is "Smoking Bomb Hayato"!"
(Rare praise from Reborn) "Gokudera became your subordinate because of your strength. Good job, Tsuna."
On the surface, Gokudera is your typical delinquent. He's brash, irritable, violent, etc. He enters the story as a rival unimpressed with Tsuna and aiming to overthrow him as a candidate to become the 10th boss of the Vongola. When he reveals that only intended to test Tsuna with their confrontation, he pledges his loyalty to him and dedicates himself to becoming his right hand man. While still retaining his delinquent attitude with most everyone else, he shows nothing but the utmost respect and admiration to Tsuna.
Vocal Direction: Medium or Slightly low; Gokudera's has an abrasive tone except when talking to Tsuna where he's bright and respectful
(Angrily chastising Tsuna) If a pinprick like you becomes the 10th boss, the Vongola Family is finished. I refuse to accept it. I'm the one who's fit to be the 10th!"
{Meeting Reborn, a respected mafioso for the first time) "So you're 9th boss' most trusted assassin, Reborn. You're not kidding about me becoming a candidate for successor if I kill Sawada, right?"
(After their fight he reveals he only wanted to test Tsuna; bowing) "You're much more than I expected! For putting yourself on the line to save me, I'll place my life in your hands!
(Gokudera's signature greeting; excited) "Tenth~!"
This project is something I want put my best foot forward in and make awesome. Unfortunately, I myself don't have any experience in audio engineering/video editing. I would love to do the editing but it wouldn't be the best it could be if I did. I plan to do the editing once I have a better understanding of the process but having someone with actual experience would be a real help and if they could also teach me, that'd be even better.
