I am the Darkness Arc III: City of Fools

I am the Darkness Arc III: City of Fools

Project Overview

We are pleased that you are considering becoming apart of such a widespread series as this. We’ve had such fun putting together the first two arcs, and with this being the third and final arc in The Intermine Legacy: I am the Darkness, we’re wanting to really make it one to remember.

But first, here’s a little backstory to the history of the project. It was originally known as Haunt: Halcyon Days, then Haunt: Deliverance, and finally, it was known as I am the Darkness. It’s a series that, no matter what life has thrown at it, has withstood the test of time. We’ve received official nominations for Best Leading Actor for James Herd (William McKinley) and Best Supporting Actress for Leah Vianna (Marshall Broderick) in the Audio Verse Awards. That being said, this project is still unfortunately an non-paying project. So, if that is something you cannot look past, then we understand wholeheartedly. This is an audio-based production, but the possibility of someday creating a visual adaption is present.

Many of the following open roles are technically considered extras, but we do have a couple of recurring or main roles that will be in the series for the long haul, so please read the character descriptions carefully.

Mackenzie’s older brother who served as a bully to Joseph before he was frozen within Intermine Laboratories. In the present day, he cannot talk, but he makes a significant presence in a flashback to Joseph’s youth. Cocky, arrogant, and condescending, Leon is one of those characters who makes a very short, but emotionally moving character arc. Leon is a minor character, appearing in only one episode. Snobby, Slightly thuggish bully. Provocative, seemingly mad at everything and everyone, and HOW DARE YOU KICK ME, I’M BETTER THAN YOU.

  • (Young/Mocking) Well, if it isn't little 'Kenzie and her boyfriend?

  • (Young) Hey, little boy! You should get home; your mommy might cry if both of her sons go missing!

  • (Young/Angry) WHAT THE HELL YOU DUMB BITCH?! We're getting out of here, guys.

Sieg is Sarah's’ father, but unfortunately I cannot divulge anything else about him at this point, lest I spoil anyone and everyone to future plot points. Just know that he is extremely important to the progression of the story, and that is all I can tell you. Sieg is a recurring character.

Caring, but firm, father. No, seriously, that is all I can tell you.

  • Sarah. One thing you’ll learn about boys is that if they like you, they’ll do anything as long as they get to spend time with you. Keep that in your noggin and you’ll be fine. I promise.

  • (nervous) When you first got here, you mentioned that you were from Earth, right? Which would mean you came to this world through Intermine Laboratories?

  • On another note, are you two going to the San Angelean Peace Festival?

Mackenzie, or ‘Kenzie’ as she is affectionately called by close friends only (she’ll dropkick you if you overstep your bounds) was one of Joseph’s best friends in the post-Fall wasteland. Had things happened differently, they may have become romantic partners, but fate had different things in store for both of them.

She needs a medium-low voice; she’s tough, but it’s largely a result of having to fend for herself for a majority of her life. That being said, she’s compassionate, and knows when to let down her guard. Mackenzie is a minor character, appearing in only one episode. Whoever is cast will need to play both her younger self (16) and her older self (50s - 60s).

  • (Sad) You disappeared after that. Everyone, including Leon, said you were dead, but...I couldn't believe it. I couldn't accept that you were gone.

  • (Young) Listen, Joseph. You'll likely never get used to your brother's disappearance. That's normal. Just know that I'm here for you, if you ever need me.

  • (Young/Happy) Thanks for...taking me to Mortar (M - or - tehr) Beach. It's such a beautiful night.

Sarah is a resident of the technological city of San Angeles, and is an avid anime fanatic. In fact, some of her lines are probably the most fun lines I’ve ever written, so whoever ends up cast will have a ton of fun as her. She serves as Joseph’s principal love interest, but she is more than just a damsel in distress. Throughout the series, her growth as a interesting and intriguing, albeit flawed, character is something I’m really looking forward to writing. Sarah is a major character, and she will be around for quite a while. Whoever is cast as her must be in it for the long haul. Caring, but she’s no pushover. She just has a tendency to get VERY embarrassed VERY easily.

  • (in awe) Really? You're gonna make me go to school after a boy fell from the sky? This is like the beginning to so many anime shows!

  • (previously, she was accused of having feelings for Joseph) WHATDOYOUMEANOFCOURSEI’MNOTIDON’TEVEN...Dad, I want to do something for him…not because I’m in love with him, but…but because I want him to feel better; I want him to feel like regardless of what happens, I’ll always take him in, and help him if he needs it.

  • I'm not going to tell you that you should kill William. Even though right now, all that is going through my mind is him getting what is coming to him. However, I'm going to support you in whatever you decide to do. If you need to kill William, I'll be there to help you do it. If you decide to show him mercy, I may object, but I'll still support you.

Tobias is a depressed individual who is saved by an unlikely source. He is a major character who appears at some point in the future. Whoever is cast must be willing to be in it for the long haul. Nervous, overall kind, but capable of showing a wide range of emotion.

  • (scared, sad) But why?! I can't leave your side, not now, not ever!

  • What happened to you, sir? I followed you because I believed in your cause. I followed you because I believed that you could save me. And you did! You don't want to kill them while we have them cornered?! I know you understand!

  • Call upon me if you ever need. You are, and always will be my master.

A middle-aged man who seems disgusted by anything he doesn’t agree with. A minor character. Emotional, as long as that emotion is anger.

  • (stern) Like she said, we'll kill you here and now. Then, we'll kill all of your Nox.

Joseph’s mother. She is a very important character to the series, so whoever is cast as her must be willing to be in it for the long haul. I can’t say anything else, unfortunately. Caring, but firm, mother with an air of mystery surrounding her.

  • I am here to teach you how to control the light within you, if you ever hope to defeat the darkness.

  • (happy) You've done it. You're a natural.

An elderly man who seems to be hiding his true potential through a desire to be seen as a kind, old man. That being said, he can be cruel if necessary. A minor character. Indifferent, but capable of showing kindness under the right circumstances.

  • Take us to your Tenebrae. We have something we'd like to discuss with him.

  • (disgusted) Goodbye, pathetic creature.

Mr. Albarn is a very succinct, punctual man who, in the context of the series, is forced to abandon his passion as a journalist due to fluctuating markets. He is a minor character.

  • Yes, it's true. I'm sorry, lad. It's just not profitable to continue running the paper.

  • Here's your last allowance, child. I'm sorry it can't be more. You've been a good lad, I wish you well.

A minor character, but whoever is cast needs to be excellent at conveying panic and worry through the lens of a caring, sympathetic character.

  • Get outta here, child! Didn't ya hear? Forecasters' predicted a flurry of darkness storms. You don't wanna be caught out during one of those. Get home, as fast as you can!
