Fort Loss (audio drama)

Fort Loss (audio drama)

Project Overview

Fort Loss is an urban fantasy series, a blend of worlds old and new.

1300 years ago, a selfish sorcerer turned his home into a dangerous network of traps. 6 hours ago, Izzy Everett went missing. At first, Aaron thinks his cousin is lost in the bustling city of Paris, but a series of encounters leads him into a deadly labyrinth of stolen rooms and mystical tricks that lies beneath the skin of the mortal world. Joined by the superior, sardonic half-spriggan Kay, Aaron must find a way to navigate the Castle of Atalante and its many traps to find his cousin again, before the Castle can seal them both inside forever.

Aiming for an Autumn 2020 release.

Writing for Episodes 4+ of Fort Loss is ongoing, so new roles may be added.

Prerequisites for VAs

I'd just like to cover a few minor points that are prerequisites for anyone wanting to submit an audition. Sorry if this seems fairly basic, but it's just a bit of housekeeping to prevent any misunderstandings further down the line. Please also note that this is an unpaid project.

1) Good mic quality is really important, with little to no background noise, and a minimal amount of peaking. I strive to make sure every character's audio quality is as consistent with each other as possible.

2) If I cast you, please be committed to getting your recordings to me relatively speedily, and to continuing to fill the role for as long as is humanly possible. I understand that this is an unpaid project, and we all have lives and other, more pressing commitments (I am in full-time employment so my own time is very limited). If you get to a stage where you think you might not be able to continue the role, please also let me know as early as you can so I can recast without it putting production too far behind.

3) Please be patient. As I said before, I'm currently employed full-time, and while I'm devoting as much time as I can to this project, there may be periods of inactivity. I'll do my best to keep you updating if this happens, but please don't assume the project is dead or cancelled if you don't hear from me for a while; I'll let you know if production status changes.

4) This series contains darker themes, and some bad language.

Izzy is an energetic girl in her mid-teens, obsessed with fantasy and science fiction. She is currently struggling to work out how she wants to spend the rest of her life, and feels personally slighted that she was born into a world without magic. That is, until she stumbles onto a mystical secret on a trip to Paris, and recklessly throws herself head-first into adventure!

Izzy's role in Season 1 is as supporting cast, but she is the lead of Season 2.

  • Would it really be so bad if there was more to the world? There isn’t, I know. Obviously we don’t have wands; there are no fairies; aliens are probably so far on the other side of the universe they might as well not even be real. It’d just be…it’d be…I don’t know. It’d be something.

  • Fine. Next time, I’ll ask for the bread and get all the French honies.

Eustache is a man out of his time.

Born in the 1920s, Eustache was cursed to become a serpentine monster and was trapped inside the Castle. Alone, ever hungry, and slowly going mad, Eustache is a bundle of nerves waiting to violently explode - a danger to himself and everyone he meets.

Eustache is somewhere in his twenties. He's weedy, thin, perhaps a bit high-pitched or nasal. He's vulnerable, and not someone you would automatically consider a threat, not until you hear him talk and see how neurotic he has become.

  • S-so many n-new people. So many fresh...faces.

  • Cocoa, sweetbreads, bananas, grapes, cured meats, and none of it - none of it - can sustain me. I just want to be full. I just want the emptiness to stop…it’s eating me. I can’t let me eat. I can’t. Let me. Eat!
