Dub Dracula!

Project Overview

“Hrabe Drakula” is a Czechoslovakian TV movie version of
Dracula from 1971. It was never dubbed into English, although there are English
subtitles available.

Working from these subtitles, I would love to dub the film
into English, as I’m obsessed with all cinematic versions of Bram Stoker’s
wonderful novel.

I would like to have this completed by Halloween of this year.

Anyone passionate about vintage horror movies or Dracula is strongly encouraged
to audition.

  I’m casting every role in
the film except Jonathan Harker, as playing Harker onstage was my first
professional gig and I’m rather partial to the character.

You can find a link
to view the film on Youtube above.

The subtitles are not a professional
translation, and I would be thrilled if the actors were willing to play with
the lines to make them sound more natural, closer to Stoker’s novel, and to
just generally fit the lip movements of the actors better.

If you have experience
dubbing, move to the front of the line. Anyone chosen to voice a character will
be provided with a copy of the film and the associated subtitles.

  • Welcome to my house! Enter freely and of your own will.

  • I hope you will find this room comfortable. You will, I trust, excuse me that I do not dine; I'm not used to eating at this time of day. But now you will need, after your journey, to refresh yourself. I will take the liberty of knocking on your door in half an hour.

  • Let me warn you, you may go anywhere you wish in my castle except where the doors are locked. There is nothing behind those doors, except unused rooms full of dust and cobwebs. But now I wish you good night... Mr. Harker.

  • There was no letter for me. I hope there cannot be anything the matter with Jonathan. The clock has just struck nine. I see the lights scattered all over the town, sometimes in rows where the streets are, and sometimes singly; they run right up the Esk and die away in the curve of the valley. To my left the view is cut oft by a black line of roof of the old house next the abbey. The sheep and lambs are bleating in the fields away behind me, and there is a clatter of a donkey's hoofs up the paved road below. The band on the pier is playing a harsh waltz in good time, and further along the quay there is a Salvation Army meeting in a back street. Neither of the bands hears the other, but up here I hear and see them both. I wonder where Jonathan is and if he is thinking of me! I wish he were here.

  • You are to stay with your dear Madam Mina. We shall go to make our search—if I can call it so, for it is not search but knowing, and we seek confirmation only. But do you stay and take care of her to-day. This is your best and most holiest office. This day nothing can find him here. Let me tell you that so you will know what we four know already, for I have tell them. He, our enemy, have gone away; he have gone back to his Castle in Transylvania I know it so well, as if a great hand of fire wrote it on the wall. He have prepare for this in some way, and that last earth-box was ready to ship somewheres. For this he took the money; for this he hurry at the last, lest we catch him before the sun go down.

  • Mina, we have told all our secrets to each other since we were children. We have shared beds and meals, and laughed and cried together, and now, though I have spoken, I would like to speak more. Oh, Mina, couldn't you guess? I love him. I am blushing as I write, for although I think he loves me, he has not told me so in words. But, oh, Mina, I love him. I love him!

I wish I were with you, dear, sitting by the fire, as we used to sit, and I would try to tell you what I feel. I do not know how I am writing this even to you. I am afraid to stop, or I should tear up the letter, and I don't want to stop, for I do so want to tell you all. Let me hear from you at once, and tell me all that you think about it. Mina, pray for my happiness.

  • Ebb tide in appetite today. Cannot eat, cannot rest, so diary instead. since my rebuff of yesterday I have a sort of empty feeling. Nothing in the world seems of sufficient importance to be worth the doing. As I knew that the only cure for this sort of thing was work, I went amongst the patients. I picked out one who has afforded me a study of much interest. He is so quaint that I am determined to understand him as well as I can. Today I seemed to get nearer than ever before to the heart of his mystery.
