DanganRonpa 27: Despair High School Reunion

DanganRonpa 27: Despair High School Reunion

Project Overview

This is a somewhat small fan-project created by myself (Ace Corsaira) and a few friends of mine. It focuses on 16 students at the rebuilt Hope's Peak Academy some time in the future and the killing game they are forced to participate in. You'll be voicing for a podcast which will also have some art and animation elements to it.

Things to think about before auditioning:

    1) This is going to be a long-term project, and we would prefer it if we didn’t have our VAs dropping out in the middle of the project because of other commitments. Please weigh your commitment to other projects/activities and make sure you have room for this. We won’t be too controlling about deadlines (mostly) so don’t think you’re signing up to be part of a structured regime either.

    2) Be okay with the potential themes in the story, which include but are not limited to: homosexuality, graphic violence, Romanian, suicide, some sexual themes, mental illness, eating disorders, and “wildin’ out.” You have been warned.

    3) Be able to be contacted. Hopefully we’ll have started a Discord where you can talk to the rest of the cast, pick up scripts, and submit recordings: however, if for any reason you can’t reach Discord, make sure there’s another way we can contact you.

    4) Unfortunately, none of us on the DR27 staff speak a language other than English well enough to communicate with you semi-regularly, so ya gotta know English. I assume if you’ve gotten this far, you can read/speak/write/understand English pretty well, but better safe than sorry. However, Spanglish (the Art Overseer and Random Tech Guy can speak to you in full spanish, if you prefer), Franglish, and Japenglish are optional.

TL;DR don't drop out, don't be easily triggered, we gotta talk to you, and we gotta talk to you in English. Also don't be a dick. Thanks!

Latest Updates

  • Thank You!

Just wanted to post a quick "we're done" update. Thank you so much to the hundreds (literally!) of people who auditioned, and congrats to the people who were cast! I really cannot articulate how much it means to me that so many of you guys were interested in our characters. I hope that, even if you weren't cast, you still look for updates on this project on Twitter and Tumblr. Thank you again!

Isao Jo

Unpaid
Role assigned to: avenir

Pronunciation: ee-SAH-oh JOH

A somewhat mysterious boy with an unexplained scar going down the side of his face, Isao Jo is not a person who trusts others easily. Years of working as the Ultimate Journalist have made him an accurate human lie-detector: despite his skill, he doesn't often share his findings or opinions as he is wary of his words being used against him. He values loyalty and honesty in the few people he does call ‘friend’.

Jo’s voice should be on the lower side, to evoke an intense reporter/voiceover sound. Other than that, go crazy.

  • Isao Jo. I’m just a reporter.

  • As much as I hate to admit it, I really can’t trust anyone. It’s just my nature as a journalist, and I’d rather be friendless than dead.

  • I know, I know, I just...There's someone behind this. Someone I have to find fast. Someone that has to be stopped.

I know, I know. "Why is Junko back?" "I hated her comeback in the 2nd game!" "What is wrong with you guys!?" We don't want her back either, but we promise you that she is neither the mastermind nor an integral part of the plot. She will have a fair amount of lines, when we get to a certain part of the script, so we just need someone to voice her.

We'd like someone who has a voice close to Junko's normal voice from Trigger Happy Havoc. We're not going to be doing personalities, so don't worry about that. However, your voice doesn't have to be exactly like hers: we encourage you to put your own spin on it.

  • Sup! Not enough was happening, so I decided to spice things up. Junko Enoshima is in the house!

  • I mean, you didn't actually think he was dead, did you? Oh...you did. [laugh] You guys are a bunch of stupid scrubs.

  • Okay, okay. I'll give you information, but only after the next murder happens. Okie dokie?

Hidoki Shimasu

Role assigned to: Arya

Pronunciation: hee-DOH-kee shee-MAH-soo

A highly animated but well-meaning girl who has been dubbed the Ultimate Pop Culture Historian (aka the Ultimate Fangirl), Hidoki Shimasu’s life revolves around scrapbooking and the "shipping" of her fellow Ultimates. This activity can make her seem overbearing at best and just plain creepy at worst. She really does want all of her classmates to be happy, although she idolizes them somewhat. She occasionally refers to herself as trash and uses “hip internet lingo” like ‘LOL’, ‘feels’, and ‘ssssaaaaaaaame.’ She has a photographic memory, which has contributed significantly to her talent.

Shimasu’s voice should be in the medium to high pitched range, with the ability to ‘squee’. You should also be able to talk relatively fast while retaining good enunciation. A slight valley girl accent could be used for this character, but it is not at all necessary.

  • Sorry. It figures you don't know who I am. I'm just a nobody! Hidoki Shimasu, Ultimate Fangirl!

  • Come on, guys, listen to Kira-chan!

  • [squeals] You're Ren Tsuki, the artist and conceptualizer for Mythoschool, Elven Fantasy, Caged Bird, and my personal favorite, the best-selling Underground Misfit series!

Shinko Hatsuge

Role assigned to: ohnoes

Pronunciation: SHEENK-oh hat-SOO-gee

The Ultimate Scientist. A boy with a dry sense of humor and wandering eyes, Shinko Hatsuge can have antisocial tendencies, but he's not a bad person. Mostly. He always wears a surgical face mask, latex gloves, and a lab coat, although no one is really sure why. He prefers the company of plants over people.

While pitch is open for this character, please be aware that Hatsuge has something of a speech impediment when you audition for him. We suggest you listen to audio of a person with a cleft palate or even someone with a lisp to get an idea of the sort of sound we are looking for from his impediment.

  • Hmm...interesting. I am Shinko Hatsuge, the Ultimate Scientist. I look forward to being your classmate, Tsuki-san.

  • People are unpredictable. You can’t study them because there are too many variables. It’s a lot of stress, which is why I tend to avoid them.

  • I don't need a girlfriend. If I want something pretty to look at, I can just glance around, Tsuki-san.

Naoko Iijima

Role assigned to: moist33

Pronunciation: NAA-oh-koh ee-JEE-mah

The Ultimate Model, Naoko Iijima is a boy who comes off to people as air-headed and entitled. Despite this bad first impression, he does enjoy meeting new people. His memory is so bad that he sometimes forgets to wear a shirt when going out. Despite these things, the modeling industry has given him some demons that he works to hide. While he’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer, he does have moments of surprising insight.

Iijima should have a medium-pitched, slightly flamboyant voice (though the degree of flamboyance is completely up to you.) Regardless of how ostentatious you decide to be, his voice has to be able to go into a more serious, wise pitch that loses this air.

  • My name is Naoko Iijima! I’m the Ultimate Model. I’m not sure whether or not I’m the Ultimate Male Model or the Ultimate Model overall, but I’m here either way!

  • If people think my job is easy, that means I’m doing a good job! My job is to make hard work look effortless

  • It’s called fishnet! Don’t diss the fishnet, girl, or you and I are gonna have problems. I wear it when I model, so why not wear it all the time?

Minori Tameiki

Role assigned to: laceymcroberts

Pronunciation: min-ORR-ree tuh-MAE-kee

The Ultimate Lawyer, Minori Tameiki is almost as spirited as she is self-depreciating. She thinks that she isn't worth anything and is very vocal about it. While in a courtroom, however, she is a completely different person: calculating, manipulative, and out to win at any cost. It's implied that both of these Minoris are not her actual personality, however. Almost all of her body parts are double-jointed and she does various freaky body tricks to startle her classmates.

You are gonna need some kind of range to play this part, friend. Her voice can go from a high pitched, bubbly tone to a dark and analytical one. She also has a very normal, mid-tone that comes out when she shows her true self.

  • Hello, hello, hello! You're currently speaking to Minori Tameiki, the Super Duper High School Lawyer!

  • Justice is one of the most important things to uphold, you know? Without justice, people wouldn’t be able to defend themselves from bullies, and what kind of world would that be?

  • Aw, scared you away, huh? I do that for a lot of people, it’s sort of my thing!

Kira Kita

Role assigned to: abi_bibi

Pronunciation: KEER-ruh KEE-tuh

The Ultimate Internet Star (aka the Ultimate YouTuber) Kira Kita is an optimistic and heavy-chested girl who has an undeniable charisma. She is very grounded and somehow believes that no one should know who she is despite being incredibly well-known, even outside of the digital world. Although she is only moderately intelligent, she has an acute sense for how people feel.

Kita’s voice needs to immediately communicate kindness, spirit, and trustworthiness. Pitch is undecided, although we are leaning towards the higher end of the spectrum. We are toying with the idea of Kira having a British accent, although you should feel free to try out in whatever accent you would like.

  • HereKitaKita? Yes, that's me! But my real name’s Kira: Kira Kita. Nice to meet you!

  • Hey! I'm no big deal. In fact, I love reading your work. The Mythoschool series is one of my favorites.

  • I know that, one day, I’ll stop making internet videos, and people will forget about me. But until then, I have the ability to change the world, and I’ve got to take it.

Katsumi Miyake

Role assigned to: ravenfeathers01

Pronunciation: KAAT-soo-mee mee-YAA-kae

A girl who would prefer to be the Ultimate Jazz Dancer, Ultimate Ballerina Katsumi Miyake is very clumsy when off of the stage. Although she has an vivacious kindness towards others, her view on life is somewhat sheltered. Strong feminist. She believes in not using curse words, so her choice in expletives is...interesting.

Miyake’s voice should be medium pitched and slightly airy. She should be able to make high pitched squeaking noises in surprise.

  • *sigh* Unfortunately, I'm not the Ultimate Dancer. I'm Katsumi Miyake, the Ultimate Ballerina. Nice to meet you.

  • He is the most misogynistic piece of quivering pig fat I've ever had the misfortune of meeting!

  • Cheese and crackers, you scared me half to death! Don't you know not to bother a dancer when she's stretching?

Ren Tsuki

Role assigned to: deleted32793

Pronunciation: REHN SOO-kee

Ren Tsuki is the main character of DR27, and the Ultimate Manga Artist. She's sarcastic at times, but she genuinely wants to try and befriend her classmates. Initially hesitant to accept the invitation to attend Hope’s Peak because of her fear of rejection and social awkwardness, she decided that enrolling in the Main Course would be better than continuing to live in a household struggling to make ends meet. Although she has something of a pessimistic nature, she is working to be more optimistic about the future.

Tsuki has a medium to low-pitched voice with an ever-present cynical air. If you are going to audition, be prepared to have a lot of lines, including internal dialogue and narration.

  • Um, I'm Ren Tsuki, but you can just call me Ren. I'm the Ultimate Manga Artist, supposedly.

  • Sometimes I sit around and ask myself if I really deserve to be here, you know? Everyone else is a true Ultimate, and I'm just...me.

  • Yeah, because being a complete douchebag is really going to help the situation.

Reshi Makuroba

Role assigned to: garbagegrenade

Pronunciation: RAE-shee mah-kuu-ROW-buh

A strangely intimidating girl at first, Reshi Makuroba is the Ultimate Therapist. She is often quiet and reserved, although she wouldn't usually be described as "timid." Her demeanor, although not cold, is almost completely unshakeable. She expresses limited emotions, but is empathetic towards others. She is also something of a technophobe/anti-tech person.

The pitch for Makuroba's voice is relatively open: however, her voice should be authoritative and calming. She should be able to go into a quiet, airy pitch when she becomes more shy. It has been undecided as to whether or not she will lose her composure in a Mikan-esque way, so be aware of this looming factor when auditioning for her.

  • A pleasure to make your acquaintance. I am Reshi Makuroba, and I hold the title of Ultimate Therapist.

  • Truly, no horrors in this world can compare to the suffering troubled minds inflict on themselves.

  • [slightly crazy] None of you understand! You never did. I understood you, but I am the weird one? [laughter] It makes complete sense now.

Hayakawa Nishikaze
closed
Unpaid
Role assigned to: butterednoodles

Pronunciation: hi-yuh-KAA-wuh nee-she-KAA-zae

Hayakawa Nishikaze is the Ultimate Magician, although he's a skeptic himself. He's brash, arrogant, and a little misogynistic, not to mention one hell of a flirt. Although Nishikaze likes to get a rise out of people any way he can, he's easily flustered by people who 1) turn his advances back onto him or 2) claim they have no knowledge/interest in magic. His respect is hard-won, and Nishikaze refuses to call people by their real names until they’ve earned it, preferring to make offensive nicknames for his classmates.

Pitch for Nishikaze is open, but we are currently leaning towards a slightly higher voice (think Kazuichi Souda). Whether you have a higher voice or not, be prepared to be a complete and total asshole.

  • I don’t need an introduction, but I might as well. ‘Etiquette’ and all that other shit. I am Hayakawa Nishikaze, the greatest illusionist in the world! Was that a good enough intro?

  • Who died and put you in charge? Girls can't be leaders: not good ones, anyways.

  • And the dead have awoken! Looks like the slap worked after all. I didn’t think Two-Face could hit that hard.

Haru Sakasaki

Role assigned to: reigandr

Pronunciation: HAR-roo SAA-kah-SAA-kee

The Ultimate Confectioner. Although he's not a rude or somber person, Haru Sakasaki is so lazy that he often doesn't talk to people because it wastes energy. Besides this, he occasionally expresses dark or sinister thoughts about the coming of the apocalypse and the well-being of those around him. He seems to have in interest in violence, though is not prone to fits of rage himself. Ironically, he’s been diagnosed with Type I diabetes.

Sakasaki's voice is low and silky. Think of Cryaotic's voice (if you're not sure who he is, you can follow this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cB0dxWbgKks). Much of his speech is clipped/stunted, as he is trying to use as little energy as possible to communicate, but he will also have long, ramble-y paragraphs of dialogue, so you have to be able to maintain pitch.

  • Haru Sakasaki. Confectioner. Pleasure.

  • When I was seven, my blood sugar dropped while I was making caramel with my father and I fell into the vat. The caramel swallowed me whole. You would never believe that something so sweet could be so terrifying.

  • ((We'd like you to ad-lib some noises, because that's part of the way Sakasaki communicates))

    1. Affirmative, "yes"

    2. Negative, "no"

    3. Acknowledgement, "I hear you"

    4. Dismissive, "leave me alone"

Hikari Ryoko

Role assigned to: spit the cat

Pronunciation: hih-KAR-ree ree-OH-koh

The Ultimate Explorer. Despite his somewhat intimidating height and appearance, Hikari Ryoko is almost the definition of the term "cinnamon roll." Because he has been blind since the age of 8 or so, this is his first time going to a public school for seeing kids since that age. He finds that his blindness has contributed greatly to his success as an explorer, however due his lack of sight he can get into some rough situations when he’s not properly orientated.

Ryoko’s voice should be in a mid-to-low range, however a wide emotional range is very important.

  • Hikari Ryoko, the Ultimate Explorer. I’m excited to spend more time with you, Ren.

  • When you don’t have a face to distract you, it’s easy to hear how people really feel about something.

  • The world's a vast place. It's full of incredible experiences. I can't sit around as if I'm helpless just because I'm blind.

Momotori Monomonoi

Role assigned to: imfun_iswear

Pronunciation: moh-moh-TOR-ree MON-oh-MON-oy

The Ultimate Logician, Momotori Monomonoi is a person who does not care about the feelings of others, preferring to concern herself with the outcomes of choices and the statistics surrounding her classmates’ behavior. She has as a keen interest in both origami and world politics. She seems indifferent about most things, even when they involve her; however she becomes very agitated when she is recognized by others for her various accolades in mathematics because she dislikes her fame in the field.

Her voice is as bland as raw Cheerios and should be in the mid-low range. Be prepared to be angry and analytical, but have relatively little emotional range.

  • [sigh] My name is Momotori Monomonoi. Please remember it, as I'd like to refrain from repeating what you should already know.

  • Excessive hand gestures are a sign of lying; stop waving your arms like an idiot and confirming what I already know.

  • With all these people against him, the odds are certainly not in Hayakawa’s favor. What an utter failure.

Gabriele Popescu

Role assigned to: Ace Corsaira

Pronunciation: gaa-bree-ELLE poh-PESS-kue

An unfortunately-named boy and the Ultimate Tailor, Gabriele Popescu is quite proud of his Romanian heritage and has is a long-time fan of ballet. While normally amicable, he can become quite biting towards people he thinks have bad fashion sense. He has some culture shock moments while at Hope’s Peak, but he tries his best to fit in with the school’s culture.

He should have an accent: preferably Romanian, but any generally eastern European accent would work. Pitch is open, although we’re currently leaning towards something higher. He will also have at least one point where he sings a song: you don't have to have a perfect voice, but be able to stay on pitch. We will also be using sporadic Romanian words, so you may have to take a quick look at Google Translate for pronunciation if you decide to audition for this part.

  • Scuzele mele, I haven’t even introduced myself. I’m Gabriele Popescu, the Ultimate Tailor, but you can call me Gabi for short. Ma bucur sa te cunosc.

  • My talent is sort of strange, seeing as there are many factories that can make clothing much faster than me. But when I make something, and people like it, it motivates me to keep doing what I love.

  • There’s no need to apologize! I didn’t expect you to know the song: it’s a children’s song from Romania about the coming of spring.

Role assigned to: soluri

Pronunciation: zoo-KAA-shee HI-kin

As the Ultimate Lucky Student, Zukashi Heikin is about as normal as it gets. He, too, doesn't believe that he's worthy enough to hang out with the rest of his class. However, he's a friendly person with a good sense of humor and a high tolerance for weird shit. Heikin is always willing to step in and calm things down if something escalates and tries to work with Ren to solve mysteries.

Heikin has a relatively medium-pitch voice: think of a voice similar to the previous series' protagonists. However, also be prepared to do a slightly crazy Komaeda-esque voice. Keep in mind, however, that you don't have to sound exactly like the references. Feel free to put your own spin on the classic protag voice.

  • I’m Zukashi Heikin. I don’t have an Ultimate talent or anything...I just won the annual lottery. I hope you’ll still treat me like one of your classmates, though.

  • Going to Hope’s Peak seemed impossible, but here I am . Now I can be someone, stop sitting in the background and become the protagonist of my own story. I know that sounds stupid, but that’s my dream, my hope.

  • [slightly crazy] But it's okay, right? You all have the hope and determination you need to get through this. You're Ultimates! Nothing can hurt you.

Arakami Yunusu

Role assigned to: Ace Corsaira

Pronunciation: are-uh-KAA-mee yoo-NOO-soo

Arakami Yunusu is the Ultimate Actress. A confident girl with strong opinions and a deep-rooted belief in hard work, she’s prone to violence, and often casually refers to gruesome acts in conversation. Yunusu is a believer in and follower of superstition, especially any superstitions regarding the theater. As someone very in tune with her sexuality, she can be a little flirtatious at times towards her classmates.

Yunusu's voice should be a medium to low pitch. You will need to have a relatively large range. Dramaticism/singing ability is highly encouraged. A slightly Southern accent is preferred, but not required.

  • Hi, there, sweetheart. Nice to meet you formally. My name's Arakami Yunusu, and I'm the Ultimate Actress.

  • Have fun! If anyone threatens you, tell me. I'll gouge their eyes out with my fingernails!

  • You're not supposed to say the name of The Scottish Play: it's cursed!
